What can you tell me about this colts pedigree? All comments are greatly appreciated. Thank You.

On the SIRE'S side:

Cherokee Run made over $1million in 28 starts winning placing and showing in 15 different grade races including a 2nd in he Preakness at age 3

Cherokee Dame was unraced but had 7 foals, 6 runners and winners

Blushing Groom won 5 G1 races in France

Frances S as a broodmare sire:
Sire of 131 producing daughters, 917 foals, 53 black type winners, including It's In the Air (Champion, $892,339), Athenian Idol (Champion, $36,530), Groomstick ($668,510), Entitled To ($489,281), Triocala ($465,660), Ogygian ($455,520), Ward Off Trouble ($404,369), High Hook ($394,445), Dominating Dooley ($274,627), Safe Ground ($252,353).

Sir Gaylord won 6 stakes races and equalled track racord at Hialeah 7f in 1:22. Also is a 1/2 to Secretariat

Nearco was sire of champions Neartic & Nasrullah, thus the point stallion for the Northern Dancer and Bold Ruler lines

On the DAM'S side:

Danzig 3 for 3 1978 Saratoga yearling $310K purchase.
Topped US general sires' list from 1991-93.
Sire of Breeders' Cup winners Lure, Chief's Crown, War Chant and Dance Smartly. Leading sire by stakes wins in N. American history. Highest Average Earnings Index.

Northern Dancer won 10 stakes races including the Kentucky Derby and Preakness, 3rd in the Belmont. 1963 Champion 2YO colt in Canada. 1964 Champion 3YO in US. Widely regarded as the #1 sire of the 20th Century

Also includes Man O' War and Bold Ruler in the lines

Those are all the ones that I like in his lineage.

interesting pedigree on the sire side. How was Cherokee Run allowed to breed to his mother? And then who would have the courage to stand Olrud? Probably a story in there somewhere.

Don't worry....Cherokee Run was never bred to his own dam. Just a bit of a mix-up. :)

There is no 'Olrud' - but the dam of the colt in question is showing an as-yet-unnamed '06 colt by Olerud, who is a son of Cherokee Run out of a Raja Baba mare.

So, the correct pedigree to analyze would be Olerud x Brandy's Best (the second such mare in the DB) by Poles Apart.

Olerud was named after Jan Olerud, the baseball player. I forget who named him and owned him. I was not aware he made it to stud.
