Are you saying that the mare you have has Grey Flight 4x4 on both the sire and dam side, or are you saying that the 4th dam of your mare has Grey Flight both top and bottom?

the 4th dam has grey flight top and bottom.

Pleasure to Dance, the dam of your mare (Fior de Castagna), is inbred to Grey Flight 4x4.

Inbreeding to Grey Flight (5x5 or closer) has produced 13 Graded/Group winners in the past 20 years, 7 G1 winners.
I have no idea of how many times this pattern has been tried.

Although you have the full siblings What A Pleasure and Bold Princess in the peidgree, the mare does not have the RF factor because the two siblings are only present in her dam's side of the pedigree, Pleasure To Dance does have the RF factor because she is inbred to Grey Flight through her sire and dam.

Now, if you were to breed your mare to Diamond or Defer, the foal would be an RF because it would be inbred to Grey Flight through three full siblings, Clear Ceiling from the sire and both What A Pleasure and Bold Princess from the dam. If your mare were mated with Teton Forest, the foal would be an RF because the inbreeding to Grey Flight would come from Gray Phantom (Ambiorix/Grey Flight) through the sire and What A Pleasure and Bold Princess from the dam.

The inbreeding to the superior female does not have to come from full siblings, and if it comes from the same son it is not considered an RF, in other words, if you had a filly that had Secretariat both from the sire and the dam it would not be an RF to Somethingroyal, but if you had Secretariat and Sir Gaylord one from the sire and one from the dam, then you would have an RF to Somethingroyal.

Hope this helps.

i think i've got it now. so if i bred her to carry my colors, the foal would have the RF through misty flight on the stallion's side, correct?

so, is the RF something to look for or breed for or avoid? i'm thinking it's a matter of personal preference on how its viewed as a pedigree tool.

Yes, the foal would have the RF factor.

I believe being inbred to Grey Flight with three individuals could not hurt. However, to breed just to achieve an RF, without taking other factors into consideration, such as, blood affinity, conformation, physical type, sire production record, stallion fees, value of the mare and so on, could defeat your purpose.

Having an RF does not mean that you will have a superior runner, in my opinion it would add to your chance for success. Many experts believe it does not help, but most agree that inbreeding to superior females gives you a better chance at success.
