Inbreeding To Secretariat

Postby Patuxet » Mon Jul 21, 2008 4:41 am

In the Question About Position in Pedigree thread bcassidy wrote:

"Bold Ruler loves to be inbred to himself and almost the more the better---as long as he is not being duplicated through two doses of Secretariat"

Can anyone else substantiate that observation?

When I looked for stakes winners out of Risen Star mares I found that there aren't very many of them, but at least five are by sons of Storm Cat and therefore involve inbreeding to Secretariat.

G1 Goldmine is a Great tool for looking at this kind of data. Secretariat x Secretariat in the first 5 generations has produced ~ 43 graded stakes winners (not counting maybe horses in the last month or two). Bold Ruler x Secretariat has produced 254 GSW's, including the Sec x Sec, so a net of 211 graded stakes winners where Bold Ruler was inbred through Secretariat and NON-Secretariat. Bold Ruler x Bold Ruler has produced 440 GSW's, including the previous results, so a net of 186 graded stakes winners where Bold Ruler was inbred entirely without Secretariat.

Thanks, madelyn, for the information. Goldmine is very useful. I have it in my "winter" pc in FL but not in this "summer" laptop.

My filly who is inbred to Bold Ruller

Postby karenkarenn » Thu Aug 07, 2008 11:51 am

Hello, I have a question if anyone is still there.
Our filly Sunday Belles in inbred to Bold Ruler in the fourth generation is that a cause for concern?

Karen:

These are Bold Ruler negatives that I've come across :

Frank Mitchell in "Racehorse Breeding Theories":

"There was more than a trace of offset knees in the Bold Ruler clan; mating Secretariat back to some of the family members might have been total disaster."

Rommy Faversham writes of the mating of Buckpasser to Bold Ruler mares: "The results were less than good. Subsequent theorization has included observations that Buckpasser often got horses with knee and foreleg problems, while Bold Ruler had a tendency to pass on arthritis."

Please look at Perfect Colours and provide suggestions for a 2009 stallion:

She is:

4S x 3D to Secretariat
5S X 4D X 4D to Bold Ruler
5S X 3D X 4D to Somethingroyal
5S x 5D to Buckpasser

Her dam is very inbred being by Risen Star and out of a daughter of Somethingroyal by Reviewer [by Bold Rular]

She's in-foal to Domestic Dispute for 2009 and considering Cherokee Run for her 2010 foal.

Grif,

Could you take a look at the posted photo of Accerleration, and see if this is an accurate image. He looks a bit odd. Sort of like Northern Dancer legs with a Secretariat type body. Or anyone else who's seen the horse in person provide feedback.

Do you have any conformation shots of Perfect Colours, or her other foals? Or her dam?

Yea, he [Acceleration] looks like he's part bassett hound..

I've got some photos od Perfect Colours but I don't know how to post them on this site.. PM me your email address and I'll attach some pictires of PC to a return email..

She's got very good bone and legs and is short coupled.. Fact is the only real confromation fault I can find is she has is a short neck..

I think a mare with this kind of breeding should be able to produce when or if we can fins the right stallion..

Her produce record was goofed up in the database. She had multiple sets of twins. Will do. Also if you have any photos of her offspring?

Master Command is a typical representative of a horse who favors their Secretariat inbreeding.

He' extremely top heavy with massive girth but on legs that short underneath such mass. I'm half tempted to breed a Risen Star mare to him. She's average size with some good bone but without the mass of the Secretariat line.

The Risen Star mare I have in mind is leggy. And if the basset could run, sign me up!

Master Command has quite a bit of Lord At War in him too. Got to love that.

I have a son of Risen Star and would love to see more of your daughter for my pedigree records. I will have TB foals next year... but only have an Anglo Arab colt by him at the present.

Very well moving, superb disposition and very Classy!
