Family 1-x and Buckpasser

Postby vineyridge » Wed Oct 01, 2008 1:59 pm

1-x is La Troienne. Buckpasser is La Troienne tail female top and bottom. His best broodmare daughters were the result of breeding to Family 1-x mares.

Any ideas why? The Buckpasser on La Troienne mares produced some freakishly fine racing and breeding stallions.

Can anyone point me to any offspring of a Buckpasser son who is 1-x on the bottom and bred to a 1-x mare? I was wondering the genetic magic was passed on to the next generation.

Hi vineyridge

The closest I can come up with is Top Account, who stands at Little King Ranch in George, Washington. He's not a Buckpasser son, but has a triple dose of 1x. He is a very good looking specimen.
Check out the pedigree of Misty Autumn (1986) by the Buckpasser son Ask Clarence, and this one http://www.pedigreequery.com/its+buzz+time

Top Account-

No time for studying that pedigree in depth but I was amazed by the amount of War Admiral in there. Other contributions of that Fair Play line through Man O' War and Mad Hatter.

Also, Selene seems to pop up quite a bit.

Does Top Account get very many runners? Looks like George, Washington is not exactly in horse racing main stream.

Hi

Top Account was a first-rate racehorse whose dam is the great broodmare, Up The Flagpole. He has been a productive stallion and I predict he will be a very good broodmare sire. Here is the Little King Ranch website.

Thanks for posting the site of the farm.

Nice to see the stallions getting out and loved the shots of playing in the snow and Top Account "digging in."

Is it the pictures or does that farm get a fair amount of bone in their babies? Like what I see.

Question- They say Top Account was a good sprinter/miler, yet state he should add stamina to the pedigree. Kinda confused on that one. Maybe it's in there but if he himself was a short running horse, how does he pass on stamina?

Hi

Top Account's pedigree is loaded with stamina influences especially via the female family (as his conduit profile indicates). Top Account's siblings Allied Flag, Long View, Prospector's Delight, and Run Up The Colors, all excelled routing. Even the well-rounded Top Account had a record of 8-3-0-4 while routing, despite being classified as a superb sprinter/miler. I'm sure you have heard the old adage (one that D. Wayne Lukas is fond of quoting) that good milers make the best sires. How one approaches Top Account from a breeders perspective (type of mares) will dictate the aptitudinal ranges of the resultant foal. He's just a very versatile individual who offers a lot of breeding options.

Hi all, Top Account has a pedigree based on a Buckpasser/Ribot nick that I like a lot. By adding sires with strong Buckpasser, like Private Account, Touch Gold, and Seeking the Gold, to mares heavy in Ribot influence, the cross produces a high percentage of top class runners, but they do tend to be sprinters (not all).

This cross has produced:

Top Account
Mass Media
Midas Eyes
Ready Set
Sharp Susan
Wanderin Boy
Pleasant Home
Composure
Seeking the Best
Flirt with Fortune
Cash Run
Country Hideway
Rapid Proof

Calling them sprinters is probably not entirely fair, as they do seem to stretch out to 9f, which is a "classic" distance for fillies, but relegates the males to a tag of shorter distance horse.
