I was surfing the TB sites and came upon this interesting discussion.

Nice find Shammy. Love the one quote in the thread; "their are lies, damned lies and nicking statistics".
I am neutral on nicking. Too many A nicks that cannot run and C nicks that can. But love it when my mare matches up with an A nick stud..

As humans, we are raised to seek affirmation, and nothing affirms like an "A" in anything. If nicks were expressed in percentages and statistics alone, like 65% SW based on the cross using 3 samples, they would not be nearly so sexy. I prefer, personally, to discard the letter grade and really examine the results. You can get a failing grade - a D or an F, just because the cross has never been tried. Doesn't mean it is a BAD cross.

I don't like the letter grade either. The idea of giving percentages is a good one. All in all, I don't find the nicking software trustworthy. It gives the mare owner a false sense of security.
