Dunaden

Postby Bast » Tue Nov 01, 2011 12:40 pm

Not only does Melbourne Cup winner Dunaden come from the all-but-extinct line of Herod, but his first two dams are listed as "unraced", & the 3rd unplaced in 2 starts.

All this and Dunaden's breeder also bred the first six dams.

Dunaden traces to the conduit mare Terre de Seinne, who is also the conduit of Epsom Oaks winner, Blue Wind, the St Leger winner Bolin, and the Deutches Derby winner All My Dreams. He certainly has a stamina laden pedigree (at least from my perspective).

He was raised in Holland, people bought him in frnace as nobody wanted to buy him.

The first four generations at the dam side, is lacking any blacktype.

Sport Horse breeders would call Dunaden a freak and not likely to replicate himself if bred. But then, some freaks do.

We were having here Julio Mariner at Stud , the results in the breeding shed for flat racing were just plain bad, but he left more than useful sporthorses in his legacy.

Vineyridge, many years ago I spoke a man in a pub (no he wasn't drunk!) at Newmarket and he told me that Ahonoora was a real freak (he worked at the stables of Frankie Durr, his former trainer.
