RAN on the broodmare sire line

Postby stancaris » Wed Feb 29, 2012 9:04 am

History tells us that the RAN broodmare sire line is not a good line for getting Derby winners. Only two horses in history with the Raise A Native broodmare sire line ever won the roses and they are Mine That Bird and Barbaro. It can be done but generally the RAN broodmare sire line is not the desired pedigree for Derby winners. This year the favorite for the Derby at this point is Union Rags who looked very impressive in his comeback race Sunday in the FOY stakes at GP. He may get in the Derby gate and still be the favorite come May 5th provided that he remains sound and keeps on winning. By the way, his second damsire Nijinsky is a C/S chef and therefore may provide the stamina necessary to negotiate the 10 long grueling furlongs of the Derby.

Stan, you don't REALLY want to talk about Dosage, I hope.

RAN on the broodmare sire line

Barcaldine: My main point was that Union Rags, although carrying the RAN broodmare sireline does carry a stamina chef as his second damsire (Nijinsky). And Nijinsky a C/S chef may provide Union Rags with the ability to negotiate 10 furlongs on the first Saturday in May.
