Dumb Historical Question

When looking into the roots sections of PQ, there are a lot of English imports to the colonies. Some of both stallions and mares have pedigrees and some don't.
How many of the very early imports from England ended up in the first few GSBs? Were there imports to the colonies that were definitely English and have pedigrees who were not in the GSB? I seem to be running into a lot of horse names that I do not recognize at all.
To put this more lucidly, just because an horse imported from England in colonial times is shown in PQ with a pedigree of some sort or other, does that mean the horse made the GSB?
For instance, Lees Mark Anthony is out of a US mare named Moll Brazen, both of whose parents are GB. Both her dam and granddam are a mare named Miss Colville who doesn't have a family number, although she is by Bartlett's Childers. She was imported to the US, but had two GB foals, Sparks and Young Traveller. Sparks was also imported to the US and was the sire of all her US foals. Young Traveller doesn't show progeny.
Is that family in the early GSBs? Was Jolly Roger? He has a sire, but no dam listed.
I'm wondering how many of the early imports that I've assumed were GSB actually aren't. So many of the early horses in the GSB lacked pedigrees, just as so many colonial imports did. When I see the blank spaces on a GB horse with American descendants, I've always just assumed it was GSB, unless it has an American Family #, but now I'm questioning that assumption.
