Another Request for DNA Volunteers

REF: Another Request for Volunteers

Concerning our ongoing Danielson, Gilbert, Bolinger mtDNA study,
I request volunteer horsemen having matrilineal descendants of
Selima (Families 21, A-4) for volunteers to collect DNA samples
from their horses.

Dr. Danielson has suggested that we compare the mitochondrial DNA
from samples of descendants of Selima (family 21), Sophia (family
21-a), and Calypso (family A-4) female families to confirm
speculation that they have common matrilineal descent.

Mitochondrial DNA sequencing will reveal whether Selima and her
connections to families 21 and A-4 are confirmed or denied. This
is one of the problems in which I am very interested. I think
this may be an especially fascinating portion of our study - and
one that may provide immediate and specific results. Perhaps,
identification of Selima's connection to the many modern-day race
horses that are her descendants might intrigue the Jockey Club
sufficiently to take an interest in a mitochondrial identification
project of the Thoroughbred.

Yours truly,
Loren Bolinger
