Noone said that.. but what I CAN say, is she is better than the majrority of the 3 year old COLTS we have out there now, and the fact that she is bred ot go LONG is just sexy :)

shoot, boca grande might just be better.. I firmly believe at a mile, Headly's filly out in SA (can't spell her name) could give Rags To Riches a legit run for her money.. she clocked a freakin 109 beyer earlier this year

but going a mile and a quarter.. a mile and a half?

Headley's filly is in rehab right now.

And, this is a weak crop of 3 year old colts...Rags To Riches might fare well against the boys. I'll be impressed once she beats something that could even be mentioned in the same sentence as "running with the boys," though...Octave just isn't one of them.

hey.. octave is a game filly... you have to at least be decent to come in 2nd that many times in Grade 1's.

I think the top of the class is really good, but the middle class leaves alot te be (so far) desired.. don't forget about Nobiz and Scat Daddy... I don't know WTF happened in the derby but if they can bounce back.

In a mile and and 8th however, I don't think R2R hits the board against hard spun, Curlin and SS... it's the distance that works in her favor, the farther she runs, the better she is

Yep....I agree 100% with ya, except that I think R2R looks so good at 1 1/8th against the fillies because her crop doesn't want any part of that distance - and she does. Octave is an "OK" filly...I think in a stronger year, she'd be an also ran.

By the way, Nice to meet ya, BDW...I'm "Rok" around here. LOL!

You can't blame Unbridled for that, as all Inside Information's foals have been wobbler's of some degree except for Smuggler. If a foal of her's even makes it to the track that's an accomplishment.

Hi Rokeby,

Why do you think that this is a weak crop of 3yo colts? It's an unusual crop by modern standards because a number of the best 2yos have continued on as 3yos but clearly there are 2 top performers in Street Sense and Curlin and Hard Spun's not shabby either.

Pletcher may really want a Belmont shooter but I'd tend to believe that we'll only see Rags to Riches entered if either Street Sense or Curlin don't go.

Regards,

Pete

Hiya Pete,

I wasn't really impressed by any of the spring preps, so I don't think this crop is as strong as it has been in past years. I think Curlin has the potential to be a really nice horse if he holds together, and I'm looking for late developers in this crop (like Sightseeing) to overtake the Derby bunch (like Scat Daddy, Cowtown Cat...) later this year. Just my opinion.

A number of top two year olds returned because they had only 2 or 3 races since the BC Juvie. Street Sense had only 2. Great Hunter had only 2. Circular Quay had a couple and an 8 week layoff. There are some more to mention...wouldn't they have had to die not to return? And of the TOP two year olds that did return to run in the Derby, only Street Sense ran well. Who the heck is Imawildandcrazyguy? He beat the rest of them. Sedgefield? He beat the rest of them, too! LOL!

Sedgefield is stronger on the turf - so given his performances off the turf I think he's a very good horse.

Imawildandcrazyguy may be a better horse than anyone believes.

I also think Tiago has some improvement in him.

Hard Spun at a shorter distance (dirt mile anyone?) or on the turf, might end up being a monster horse.

We also have horses like Principle Secret whom I liked very much last year starting to come back.

Come Breeder's Cup time, we'll see about a strong crop.

Anyway, strong crop compared to what? Last year we had Barbaro and Bernardini, and Showing Up on the turf. Barbaro, wonderful as he was, didn't finish out the season, Bernardini didn't cut it against Invasor and Showing Up was good but not outstanding. Jazil, anyone?
