Stress fracture

Postby billl » Mon May 28, 2007 1:40 pm

I own a promising two year old filly that got diagnosed with a stress fracture in the tibia. Do you have any recommendations besides rest to get her to full recovery? Any experiences?

Rest and patience....and I would start her on Equi-cal, which will help her lay down bone calcium, a good idea for a growing youngster anyway as this is a critical time in her development.

Here's to speedy healing.......

I would read up on the OCD supplement as well - they say they can heal those type of things.

I was thinking about the OCD pellets, but I am still a little bit skeptical. I would give a try then.

Bill - I do not sell the OCD pellets and I think they are expensive - I do however believe they work - call me an idiot - but I had two weanling that had x-ray issues in November - put them on this stuff and by January they both had clean x-rays! I'm a believer in the product - just my opinion - and if they don't clear up they offer a 100% money back guarantee - can't go wrong there. I'd at least call and talk to them.

We had a filly diagnosed with a tibal stress fracture in the fall of her three-year-old year. She was on stall rest for 60 or 90 days, sorry, can't remember which. Then small paddock turnout for several weeks and then larger paddock turnout and jogging under saddle.

The multiple month ordeal was well worth it, as she came back completely sound, winning two races and placing in several others upon her return to racing mid-last year. Now, we're over a year later, and no issues with the tibia (as always, knock on wood!). Good luck!

Has anyone ever tried Amerdon Rapid Response? ( http://www.amerdon.com/equine.html ). They make some major claims regarding fracture recovery?

CLH - can you post a link for the OCD pellets that you're talking about?

Thanks

The gentleman that I spoke to was very helpful to me and stated that OCD was guaranteed not only for OCD's but stress fractures and other bone issues as well.

By chance, is that something available in tack stores or places such as Agway or Tractor Supply Company? It looks interesting...

Rush - if you are talking about the OCD pellets, I don't believe so, I think you have to order them through the company. If it is one of the other products, I don't know the answer to that :)

The horse we started on the pellets about a 45 days ago has shown significant improvement.
