Stallion-making races

I split this off from another topic about the Derby because it didn't really apply: what other races seem to have produced major stallions?

Recent winners:

The Sanford S. - winners include Forty Niner, City Zip, More Than Ready, Maria's Mon, Dehere, Formal Dinner, Copelan, Mercedes Won, Affirmed, etc.

Tremont S. - City Zip, More Than Ready, Tactical Cat, Salt Lake, Gulch, etc.

Champagne S. - Easy Goer, Maria's Mon, Officer, Dehere, Grand Slam, Forty Niner, Fly So Free, Devil's Bag, etc.

Belmont Futurity: Domino, Man o'War, Nashua, Bold Ruler, Secretariat, Gulch...

Back in the day, the Met Mile was a breeders' race (Buckpasser, In Reality...). No more. :-(

I still think the Met Mile might be the most important race ran in New York

Honor and Glory is a good speed stallion

Ghostzapper also won as well. don't' forget him. As well as Corinthian this year, who will stand for god knows what. I know maven likes him as well.

You can get to Honour And Glory for $12,500. Wooo hooo! The thread is about "major stallions," as per La Troienne.

Ghostzapper had already won the BC Classic...the Met Mile didn't help make a stallion out of him.

I like Corinthian, but he's still racing.

And let's not forget Ghostzapper has proven nothing as a sire. With that said, my dad has a nice Ghostzapper out of a G1 winner.

I should mention those pics were taken 3 or 4 months ago and with a camera phone. She's matured quite well and really deserves a better photographer.

okay.. i've done some resarch and looked at the past 12 winners of EVERY grade 1 in america.

here is what's up

outside of the BC races which are ovbious

Champagne Stakes

Haskell Invitational Handicap

Jockey Club Gold Cup

do more for your rep going into the breeding shed than any other races do.

Whitney Handicap outside looking in

for sprinters, the King's Bishop Stakes seems to be the best sprint based race outside well.. the BC sprint you can win for reputation

I thought that the Vosburgh might have had top sires win it, but from 1973 to 1998, YUCK! This used to be one of the premiere East Coast sprint races - look what won it in those 25 years (excluding geldings and fillies - and A Phenomenon died):
