Hello,
Just found this site and I am trying to determine if the TB I have is the horse "Harty Congrats" he is a gelding, dark bay, white blaze, 3 white socks. The tatoo is hardly readable so even though I got information on a tatoo # submitted, I still am not sure its my horse. How can I go about researching this further? Any ideas? thanks so much.

First, you could try to determine if the first character in the tattoo is the letter "Z" because Harty Congrats was born in 1996 and that is the corresponding letter. Then, of course, the horse you have would be just turned nine, which you could pretty much tell by his teeth... beyond that, I guess you could order a DNA kit from the JC and have them run it.
Do I have Harty Congrats?
First, thanks so much Madelyn for your help. I do know that the tatoo begins with the letter Z so that is for sure, the rest of the tatoo is difficult because of the black pigment on the insides of his lips. I tried several numbers before getting a "hit".
Is there any where I could see a picture of Harty Congrats? Then I'd really know. Someone posted that you can look at winning races to see the winner, however, you have to know where they last raced. The code on the jockey club form is WO. I don't know what track that is. He did race at suffolk downs and rockingham so maybe I should try those. The jockey club does DNA? Wow I didn't know that. Maybe I'll try that too.
Thanks again for your help, Cheryl Kaswell

WO stands for Woodbine in Canada. You could order a win photo or race video, if you're fairly confident that Harty Congrats & your horse are one & the same. Cost would be roughly $25 each plus shipping. His last win was at Woodbine, in the 8th race on 10/12/02.
If that indeed that is your horse, he sure was a good hard-knocking horse-- 75 starts, raced from 2 to 6, and was multiple stakes-placed.

Hello all,
First, thanks so much for your help and I will keep you posted on what happens with my research. I have been in touch with the photographer at Woodbine and I'll call monday to find out if he has a picture of the horse "Harty Congrats". I just learned that even though a picture might be available...he won by a nose and if the other horses are blocking the view...well, I might have to go the DNA way.
Another question...my horse, Simba is his name now, supposedly has a pin in one front ankle. I did not have him xrayed when he was vetted and the vet said it wasn't necessary, the horse was totally sound. I have had him 1 1/2 years and this has never bothered him. I know people with hardware in them that do just fine so it was never a concern for me. Question is....can a horse race with this type of hardware?
Thanks so much! cheryl

The answer is yes, but how well is anyone's guess. I was given a gelding this summer, retired at 8. He has won quite a bit of money too. Name is End Sweeps Advance. He has a plate in his leg and he won either his last or 2nd last race. I have had no soundness issues since I have had him.
