For quick sale, Ocala: 3 mares, all proven producers, 2 i/f

CANTER received a call from a woman in Ocala, FL who has three mares, also in Ocala, that she wants to sell. Two are in foal, one is open, and they are very nice finds for racing breeders (most folks browsing the CANTER site aren't looking for racing/racing breeding prospects, so thought it'd be best to post them here):

1. PLEASANT DEED, 10-year-old mare, Alydeed-Relevation by Recusant. Half-sister to Brooklyn Kids (earnings of $240K), Blue Talent (earnings of $140K), and Majestic Numbers (earnings of $148K, and Todd Pletcher's first winner! Producer). Pleasant Deed's first foal, Relentless Barbara (by Northern Afleet), has won in both the U.S. and Canada, earnings of $100K. Second foal, Adeedandaprayer (by Song and a Prayer), is a 2-year-old who just began her racing career and has already notched a 2nd place at Calder. Pleasant Deed is in foal to Spanish Steps, due April '09.

2. PROFIT DEAL, 11-year-old mare, Dynaformer-Sea Art by Journey At Sea. Out of a stakes-placed mare. Dam of 4 registered foals, 3 to race, 2 winners. Top earner is Dytryin (by Exchange Rate), winner in U.S. in Canada, total earnings $76K. Her 2-year-old filly by Peace Rules sold last year at Keeneland and is in training. Profit Deal is open.

3. PEPPERMINT BAY, 13-year-old mare, Defensive Play-Triflin Gal, by Country Boy Jim. Peppermint Bay earned more than $200K on the track and retired sound at age 8; she is out of a stakes-winning earner of $100K+. She is a half-sister to stakes winner and $200K+ earner Jo Me the Money. Peppermint Bay is the dam of 2 registered foals: Straight Up (by Straight Man), a 3-year-old of 2008 who is racing and has a second and third thus far, and Cityfied (by City Place), a 2-year-old of 2008. Peppermint Bay is in foal to Alphabet Soup for a spring '09 foal.

Hey Crystal! Sorry, don't know the answer to that, but yes, would assume under $4K...if anyone talks to her and gets prices, could you please post? Thanks!

Since she has until Friday to enter them in the OBS January sale I'm guessing she's going the CANTER route because she doesn't want to pay the stud fees (which she'd have to do to consign them to OBS January).

Unfortunately the two in-foal mares in this market aren't worth the stud fees so if a buyer has to pay the stud fee then even if the mares themselves are free it's not a good deal.

And the Dynaformer mare's Peace Rules sold for $2,500 at Kee Sept (on a $12,500 stud fee) so she's not looking like a profitable venture either.

My best advice to the lady would be to borrow if she has to to get those stud fees paid, enter them in OBS January, and just get what she can get even though she's not going to be happy with what she gets. At least she'd be out from under them though.

I have seen FAR WORSE mares in production then these horses. Profit Deal has some Very Sound horses in her pedigree. A suffolk favorite named CO ART, 96 starts (26-24-15) $ 397,000.
A POINT WELL MADE 106 (19-14-10) 197,000

Sea Art was a stakes winner and stakes producer. Someone breeding to race could hit it ok with these mares.

I never saw the mare PEPPERMINT BAY but I did name her Straight man colt and he was a nice yearling and 2 yr old.

It looks like her Straight Man was a filly and she was 0 for 5 as a two year-old racing in Puerto Rico last year. Don't know how she's done at three. She did sell average for a Straight Man as a yearling at the time ($15k) though and that is a good name = Straight Up.

Hahah well you are right peace;) The colt that I named that changed his name to Dee Tee Bee. So they must of taken that name after. Same year birth wrong mare.
