Good grief skipit! I thought my mare went long, but I think yours could actually break a record. I hope you are able to sleep soon.

Maybe you should get behind the lady and push to jumpstart her. I think she's holding out just to see how nuts you can get.

Seriously, what is the record? Does anyone know? For mares in general or for TB mares?

According to http://www.equine-reproduction.com/articles/overdue.shtml the longest live foal delivery on record is 445 days.

Edit to add:

According to a 2002 study from England, "Factors affecting gestation length in the Thoroughbred mare," Animal Reproductive Science, Vol 74(3-5) p175-185, doi:10.1016/S0378-4320(02)00171-9, the gestation length range resulting in viable foals was 315-388 days.

389 days and officially the longest my vet has heard about in his 20 yr career. I think we are close though. She is comfy and baby is active and bloodwork was good. So we wait.....still!

Last cover date April 26 2008!

Beside the fact Im about to go insane?!!!! Nope nothing I DO NOT want to break the 400 day mark....The worst part is Im scheduled for my first vacation in 3 years to NC (private beach house!) one May 29th. If she doesnt foal by the 28th Im taking her to the vets and let her watch her!

Wonder why they don't give Petosin (sp?) like they do to women to induce labor.

oooh, inducing is never good in horses. My vets refuse to do it (thank goodness) but I know some quarter horse people who do it. They always have some injury to the mare or foal. You can induce the contractions, but if the foal isn't positioned and the cervix open, you have a complete disaster.

Waiting is annoying and wearying, but the best solution.

Yeah but this situation is very unique... Petocin, it makes the contration harder and yet the body does open the cervix. Im wondering i would have taken that horse long time ago just to see if that cervix was ready. I mean if we can go to have a doc shove fingers up our s why not your mare.
