Hi!
I've been looking at (and converting to searchable text) some of Bruce's studbooks and wanted to know if anyone has:
1. Published a complete errata list for the early studbooks?
As an example, these two entries seem to be the same horse, but the dam's name is different:
Alarm, 1859: b. c. by imp. Bonnie Scotland out of Emma (1855) by imp. Glencoe out of a mare (sister to Big Aleck) by Medoc Page 394, vol. 1
Alarm, 1859: b. c. by imp. Bonnie Scotland out of Rebecca (1855) by imp. Glencoe out of a mare by Medoc page 237, vol. 2
So was Emma at one time named Rebecca or vice versa or were there really two horses named Alarm?
2. Published an index of stallions listed in the early studbooks?
3. Who, if anyone, would be the best authority to look at regarding possibly fraudulent or erronious pedigress?
If someone hasn't already done 1 or 2, do you think either would be a good idea?
Thanks!

Fairfax Harrison's Early American Turf Stock is a partial errata to Bruce (and Edgar, Wallace, Battell, et al.). It's based upon his analysis of the records extant for pre 1834 imported stock, and is something no student of colonial or early American pedigrees should be without.
A more complete errata has been compiled, but I don't know if the compiler plans to publish.

Emma and Rebecca appear to be the same mare. The name change and minor discrepancies (like the name of her 1860 foal) are probably artifacts of info collected from different owners, the 2d of whom renamed the mare.
2. Published an index of stallions listed in the early studbooks?
You mean like the 'Sires of Registered Foals' lists found in post vol. 7 ASB's? Don't know of any.
I've compiled a 'Dams Under Their Sires' list for ASB 4, and am working on one for 3. Someone else has done 1 & 2, but neither of us has published.
3. Who, if anyone, would be the best authority to look at regarding possibly fraudulent or erronious pedigress?
Imho, the Bloodlines team.
If someone hasn't already done 1 or 2, do you think either would be a good idea?
The addition of new, well-researched, reliable, information is always welcome.

I managed to get a copy of Harrison's book via Interlibrary Loan and have been busy scanning it. I also managed to get a copy of his book about the American Stud Book (can't remember the actual title right now) and have done the same to that.

Yes, I noticed a lot of that, along with unnamed mares being named.

No, what I was thinking of was more like a complete index of all the named male foals that were not gelded or didn't have the notation 'died' or 'died young' in the studbook. It would have year born (if available) year of death (if available) color (if available) sire (year born-year died), dam (year born-year died) and any aliases the horse had along with the page(s) and volume(s) the horse appears in. I would also have the aliases in the index with a 'see xxx' indication.
I've actually started compiling the data in a spreadsheet so I can sort it in different ways and am including a 'comments' section to include any oddities I find and to indicate any pedigree corrections from Bloodlines.net, etc.

Good! I'll keep working on my projects, then. May I PM you for your opinion on data if I have questions?
Thanks!

Of course! I'm looking forward to you turning up some evidence for a handful of unidentified sires in vols. 3 & 4.

Feel free to post them or PM me. I'm almost through with the named colts under Mares in ASB 3, and the named colts under mares and the stallions with unnamed dams from both ASB1 and 2 have been entered into my spreadsheet. I have also done OCR on ASB1 and 2 so they can be searched.
