Pioneer of the Nile $20,000 fee

Postby oliverstoned » Tue Sep 29, 2009 6:48 pm

First Tale of Ekati at 15k now PON for 20K, seems like they just double up on what they should stand for. Maybe they are going to market them like a jewelry store at the mall does (50% off !!)......... or maybe people are crazy.

It's all about perception. I'll be shocked if they wont deal on him in a big way.

Price him lower than 20k publicly though, and his yearlings will have an uphill climb to become "hot" at the sales.

Welcome to the forum! But I'm afraid I have to disagree.

A number of stallions-- like Tapit who stood for an initial stud fee of 15K at a time when stud fees were considerably higher--had yearlings who became hot at the sales because they looked the part. By the time the yearlings are standing in the sales ring, the physical is a lot more important than the stud fee.

I think $20k is too high for him. Wish them luck...

I guess they didn't get the memo from the Kee sale. In their first year he'll have have a lot of yearling RNAs with more selling for under $10k than over $30k. That's assuming there's anyone left out there to spend 20k and breed to yet another unproven stallion with a 50% chance you'll even get a foal, let alone one worth looking at.

Why would I want to breed to a retired due to injury horse anyway, much less at that price? If that means I'll never have a commercial foal or big time runner, so be it.

ding ding ding! I think you have it! :D

The thing about pricing high and dealing is that once it becomes common knowledge that they are dealing significantly on a stallion then he is no longer regarded as a true $20k stallion.

I think PON is on the high side. TOE was surprisingly high. I wonder if we'll see more ammended stud fees later in the year like we did last year.

What that means is that you wouldn't breed to the majority of the stallions in Kentucky.

I'm scared to think what Zayat plans on standing Zensational for at Hill N Dale.

"Zensational is a horse that got my full attention when breaking his maiden in spectacular fashion in a hand ride," said Sikura. "He has accomplished as a 3-year-old what no horse ever has. He is a rare and special racehorse with the kind of brilliance that defines great sires."

Whatever they're smoking, .... it's the good stuff! He's surely going to be a great sire huh?

What has he accomplished as a 3 yo that NO other horse has?

Zenzational has won 3 straight G1's against older horses - the Triple Bend, The Bing Crosby, and the Pat O'Brien. That is what "no other 3 year old has ever done" - there are probably very few 3 year olds that have even attempted such!

He is a brilliantly fast horse, but I would like to see him run on the dirt again. Highly unlikely as the Breeders Cup Sprint will probably be his last race before going to stud.
