The Great One: still going, could it be?

Postby erhrdt3 » Wed Jan 06, 2010 1:46 pm

Could it be that maybe we are going to get a New Year's surprise and they bring #1 back? Why are they still working her out? :

This notice is to inform you that one or more of your horses has worked out.

I heard they are breezing her just to take some edge off her. That said if she is to be a broodmare, why not just take her out of training, back off her grain, pull her shoes and send her to the farm...

This is just a shame! Keep her running, what she loves to do best, for this season yet. She is not old, heck, she's just getting better. Horse racing needs a horse like her.

For some reason, just sending that incredible mare off to the farm to have foal after foal doesn't seem right at this moment, wait until 2011, but in the meantime let her have her fun, and that includes running down and beating RA.

We need a horse like her to bring the industry some good news. Look what she did this year, I had people that are not into horse racing ask me about Zenyatta! She's just gettin' going, let her win another BC Classic and let us get goosebumps again watching her do it.

STAY, ZENYATTA, STAY!

Isn't that what you should do in order to have the best chance of a mare that's been racing to get in foal? The change in routine from race track to farm can be very stressful for many mares, so they need time to adjust before they're bred. If they're going to make her a broodie this season, she should have already been on the farm.

Strange.

Plus, if for some reason she doesnt or cant get pregnant, she will be ready to go right back to the track :D and kick RA's butt when they meet up, I almost suspect thats what they are planning, if RA races in the first half of the year, I hope so anyways :D

She breezed in Dec. too. I'm thinking that she's coming back if EVERYTHING came together some how some way. Truth is that she could make more money on the track, in much the same way that she did this year, if she got a guarantee $1mil or more to race RA. If she races she may lose a year in the shed (assuming she gets pregnant, carries to term, has a foal worth selling for up to $3-5 mil foal - before any stud fees or expenses)

I think its time for the powers that be in Racing to pull it together. Maybe Keeneland or Churchill - Oaks day.

I wonder....

Certainly don't think working in 48 flat is everyday routine for letting her down!

w en you sit down and actually think about it, it make sense.

1. they are not selling z so there is no rush to get her to the next sale

2. they aren't selling her offspring, so they are not tryign to cash in on her success

3. it's not a guranteed success if she goes to broodmare.

So... what you have is, when it's all said and done, is this once in a lifetime mare, going to be sent to try to reproduce herself which may or may not happen.

the only real incentive to send her to the farm now is that her lifespan as a broodmare is longer = more foals.

but if the mosses are in this " to win races" and nothing else... i dont' think this decision is as cut and dry as people think it is. basically give up a known quanity for unknown hopefuls.

Hi Guys,

Just a thought.....do you think they are waiting to see how the voting goes for Horse of the Year?

Maybe the one they want to send her too could be on the verge of being pensioned due to infertility?

That may be a possibility. At this level, being undefeated, winning the BC Classic against males and STILL being #2 might not be acceptable to Zs owners.

At first I was thinking just how old is Wayne Gretsky. The 10 MILLION DOLLAR Dubai World Cup on ARTIFICIAL TRACK is just around the corner.

IMHO, there is absolutely no way that they are working her just to take an edge off. They are working her to keep their options open. We all know that working has some element of risk. Horses break sesamoids and snap legs off in workouts every day. If they decide to run a race, they can just say they've changed their mind because she's so fit. If they decide to go to the breeding shed, they don't have to make any additional announcement because they already said they were retiring. Part of their HOY strategy is that she's retiring, so she won't be back for another vote, while Rachel will have a chance to earn it next year, so vote for Zenyatta this year and Rachel next year. They don't want anyone to think she might be back until the vote is announced. Again, keeping their options open.

If Zenyatta doesn't get HOY, they can go right on training and just say that they changed their mind. I expect that if Zenyatta does get HOY, the trips to the track will cease the next morning. I would think that there is just zero chance that anyone would risk working a huge-sized mare under speed just to "take an edge off." Working puts an edge ON. That's how they get fit. The DRF, Bloodhorse, and TTimes all reported on her first work with information in quotes, as if they were raising eyebrows at what was said to them. They didn't believe it either.

Sure would like to see her run again.

Dubai World Cup in March how many millions of Dollars for the winner?

The first at the new Meydan racecourse??

No mare has won the Dubai World Cup, the richest race in the world.
Oh and all she has to beat is the breeders cup field she just inialated.
