Rotavirus Vaccine

Postby griff » Wed Mar 24, 2010 5:37 am

I give my in-foal rotavirus vaccine 3 weeks, 6 weeks and 10 weeks before they are due to foal..

Yesterday I read an article in my local newspaper that the FDA has warned doctors and parents against using the Rotarix rotavirus vaccine until further testing can confrim it is safe as it containes a pig virus called curcorvirus 1 or PCV1.

The Rotarix rotavirus vaccine is not know to cause illness in humans and no adverse effects have been observed in children vaccinated with Rotarix but the FDA decided to err on the side of caution with the warning.

I'm wondering if this pig virus was used to make any of the equine rotavirus vaccine that is on the market and if any problems have been observed.
