Stronach Relents On Oaktree @ End Of CHRB Mtg.

Postby zinn21 » Tue Jun 22, 2010 3:53 pm

After 4.5 CHRB Meeting Hours Frank Stronach made an abrupt 180..

From The Bloodhorse online report:

"But after comments made by his friend, horse owner Mace Siegel, the Austrian racing mogul had an abrupt change of heart.

"I'm here to find solutions," he said near the end of the nearly 4 1/2-hour meeting. "I don't want to take a hard line. I would commit that we would have it (Oak Tree) this year, but then we would not have it anymore. I would have no problem."

I think Mace talked some sense into Ole' Frank, if he want's to get the racing dates he desires. Oak Tree took the poisonous pill (losing the Breeders Cup 2011) rather than being extorted by Frankie, who thought he was heir apparent.

I do not understand his leadership style at all. He spends 4 plus hours saying no to Oaktree then changes his mind impulsively at the end of the meeting. He seems to do make impulsive decisions frequently. Is there a biography on this guy? Based on his management of his racetracks I am befuddled how he became a giant in the automotive parts chain industry.

He's either brilliant and I am too dumb to get it or the luckiest as*hole on the planet..

Hi Zinn,
Stronach leaves many feeling the same way.....he has his own vision of how things are done and enough money behind him to get it done. California puts more restrictions on him and he isn't used to dealing with that. I think his change of heart has a lot to do with a deal for longer racing dates and to get permission to go with other than a synthetic surface. Meanwhile he plans on testing it at Palm Meadows, once again his way of doing things....my way or the highway. It's the first anyone has heard of this plan and I'm sure there will be many horseman up in arms (on the east coast) over that decision. Of all the racing surfaces in Florida, the Palm Meadows surface is one of the best....there will be many that won't come to Palm Meadows to test Stronachs surface this winter at the expense of their horses. It has been the winter training grounds for many of the recent Derby winners....Funny Cide, Barbaro, Big Brown, Street Sense, Super Saver....to name a few TJ

TJ, you seem to be right on with your assessment of Stronach. I did a little Google research this morning and I read a story about control he was exhibiting with a group of investors. Stronach's response was to tell unhappy investors that "if they don't like the restaurant, then don't eat there".
