DW vs Sabino in calculating foal possibilities

Postby SpecialEffects » Sun Sep 05, 2010 5:19 pm

Are there any colour calculators that have DW as an option?

If not, how much will the results vary if sabino is chosen instead? Image
The sire fits the options but the dam is a palomino dominant white. So will my odds be better for colour on the foal and by (roughly) how much?

Thanks for any insight.

I'm thinking that you will NEED to use this type of testing...

Haha SE! If you can tell me the color of the potential sire I can tell you the possible outcomes and approximate percentages. There really isn't a reliable DW counter out there yet (two in the works thought thankfully).

I didn't think so, well I couldn't find one anyway. But I don't need you, I'm going to use HH's inkblot, but thanks anyway. Image

J/K!!!!

The big blonde kid in my avatar is the DW and the sire would be a black sabino minimal markings but definitely sabino.

How's your pretty preggo girl?

ICQ is a chat program like MSN and AOL's chat programs.

Do you know if the black is homozygous or heterozygous for black? Any idea if the mare is carrying agouti or not?

Oh I forgot. The mare seems well. I've been gone for nearly a month and just saw her for the first time in three weeks (only once in 4 weeks) today. She's much rounder and has put on a fair bit of weight despite no change in her diet and the grass being DEAD (we have been very hot and dry and everything is burnt to a crisp right now). She looked too relaxed behind today and worried me a bit so I may have the vet come and make sure all is still well in there, but I'm pretty sure she's doing fine. Thanks for asking!

I forgot about that. I haven't used ICQ in a long long time. Yeah it's one of the original messaging programs.

And ACC yeah I know about dry and crisp. I've started putting round bales out (a couple of weeks ago) to supplement the grass. They don't usually go out until October. I got a really good deal on some second cut ones and the horses think they've died and gone to heaven. But I'm sure Lacy is doing well. She'll be so friggin cute when she really starts to get rotund!

I believe the sire is homozygous but will confirm tomorrow. Mare is not carrying agouti. And HH? He's a minimal sabino so all is well. Image

Damn, can't stop sneezing. I hope I'm not getting a cold.

Let me know what you find out about his zygosity. Is the mare tested for agouti? I thought it was believed Sato is 'AA'.

Yeah our BO was talking about starting to put hay out soon as well and we don't normally start until December here. It'll still be a bit though as the horses are still fat and in muzzles so we won't start hay until they have dropped a bit.

She IS round. She's definitely showing. I've got a photo from August 8th:
Image

But she is MUCH larger now. I'll get some new pics in a couple days and you'll definitely see that she's showing.

Here's a shot from JULY 25th where you can see a "lump" that she had for a while (on both sides and much more noticeable in person). It's still there but it's so much bigger that it's beginning to blend into the big roundness of her belly. She's definitely broader, rounder and lower now (again, new pics this week).

Hmmm... mine didn't start showing quite that soon. Even back when I was breeding Paints. Are you sure Lacy hasn't just been having a summer just like me? Hmmmm ICE CREAM! MUNCHIES! ANYTHINGTHATSNOTMOVING! Image

My pants have shrunk. Buggers.
Diet starts again tomorrow. Double buggers.

Lacy is so cute. It doesn't matter if she's just a 'healthy' type.

But back to the topic at hand.... I thought I had Madison checked but now you're making me question myself so I'm going to check through her file. When I can find her file. Still have to give stallion owner a call so I'll get back to ya. I just saw the pics of Lace and had to log in to say "Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh........." Image

This is very much just in the early planning stages. I don't even know if I'm going to have use of this mare next year and that's probably going to be my last chance with this girl. :(

I'm just hoping if I offer to return her pregnant to this stud that she may go for it. Part of the plan of attack  is to show her pics and give her the colour possibilities of the offspring. Don't get me wrong, I want to know too but that's the plan for now.

Trust me, if this goes through you won't be able to avoid the dancing up and down and hollering loudly me.

Thanks!!

No I don't think she's just gained as in the first two months of her being bred she actually LOST weight. The rest of her hasn't gained any either, it's just her belly.

Unfortunately I don't have any idea what lace's parents looked like, but she is positive for frame so there's definitely a chance of paly Lacy.

I'm SOOOO excited about this SE. I really hope it works out!!
