I have always loved jumps racing but this year it has given itself two black eyes. Firstly there was the magnificent Kauto Star who has become a legend of the sport by virtue of his accomplishments and yet even though he had a hard fall in training over jumps leading up to the Cheltenham Gold Cup the trainer still ran him. I was disgusted and even more so when this great horse was pulled up before he reached the halfway mark when not going well. Thankfully he was ok on cooling out. The same cannot be said for little Synchronised who ran his guts out while winning the blue ribbon of 'chasing ,the Gold Cup. When they ran him in the Grand National right back after his glorious effort I rolled my eyes and prayed for his safe return as he is not a pretty jumper and some of Aintrees fences are really tough. Well it was very ugly as he dropped his rider the great Tony McCoy before the race then fell at the notorious "Becher's Brook" and ran loose until he was hurt so bad that he was destroyed. Shame on that devil who goes by the name of greed.

I mean there are falls every year but i remember last year was particularly hard to watch even for me and I'm not one to get queasy over that type of stuff usually.

No open handicap race in britain is ever rated above a grade 3. There are a few limited handicap races that are rated grade 2.

I have to agree with you about Synchronised. Although he is an undobted stayer and as such the 4 1/2 mile trip was not beyond him in terms of pure stamina he is a little horse and was totally unsuitable for the aintree grand national fences. They would have been better served by trying todays Scottish national with him. Sadly the only race that the general public in Britain care about is the Aintree Grand National and so i get the feeling they were tring to make him some sort of legend by doing the Cheltenham, Aintree double in the same year for the first time since golden miller.
