Gemologist
Has anyone heard what his status is? I understood he was injured in the Kentucky Derby and haven't heard anything about him since. Thanks!

He's going for the Haskell.

...On July 16, Gemologist breezed five furlongs in 1:00.88 over Saratoga Race Course's dirt training track in the best of 25 moves at the distance...
...Gemologist has not raced since his disappointing 16th-place finish in the Kentucky Derby Presented by Yum! Brands (gr. I), but has been doing well since trainer Todd Pletcher put him back into training...

bdw, must I chastise you?
When I watched the replay of the race, I did not see a horse who was "no good". I saw a horse who may have been beyond his best distance, may simply have reacted very badly to being hit with the whip, may not have been racing fit after a layoff...and so on.
Gemologist looked good, appeared to be running easily on the lead for a good part of the race, and then? Who knows what happened? Dullahan didn't run his race, either. I still think Gemologist will be back- he is a graded stakes caliber horse. And the Tiznow's tend to need more time than many to develop.
P.S. Weren't you the one who said we had seen the best of Union Rags (well before the Belmont)

Dullahan did run his race...he's just not good enough on DIRT. and that has been proven over and over again on dirt.

You may pick on Dullahan (a little) at your own discretion. However, if anyone picks on Raggsy or the Tiznow dynasty
, I will smite them! (electronically) Note to moderators- this does not constitute a threat. Or at least not much of one.

Hi Reenci,
I agree, Dullahan isn't the same horse on dirt as he is over the synthetic surfaces...he may even prove to be a decent grass horse?
Gemologist was put on antibiotics following the Haskell....he was scoped and found to have a lung infection. If all goes well, he may run in the Traver's....especially since Paynter came down with a fever after winning the Haskell and could miss the Traver's?? This 3YO picture keeps going through changes.
