Can anybody tell me about this stallion? Why he's been so poorly received (31 foals in the first crop) and why his foals aren't running? Is it just that he's perceived as a sire of later maturing foals or does he have some hideous confirmation flaws? I sort of have a soft spot for him as he comes from the same tail female line as my first winning TB mare who was euthanized from complications of laminitis before she could produce a foal. I want to breed something to him, but am finding little to recommend him.

Behrens is a beautiful horse, especially for a Pleasant Colony. Some of his offspring have been flat or back in the knee, a fault he does not have. His yearlings have been scopy and late maturing types (no surprise) that do not have the quarter horse hip or muscularity preferred by most yearling buyers.

Remember that the largest demographic of yearling buyers is the two year old pinhookers. Behrens has no appeal to them.

Behrens does have a stakes placed horse in Sueno Del Mar, but as he (Behrens) did not run as a 2 year old and being a son of PC, you could not expect them to do anything as 2 year olds or even early 3 year olds.

The 31 foal first crop could well be a result of MRLS, although his fee at that time was possibly a bit too high for some breed to race people.

If you are trying to breed a sound horse that can go 2 turns, it would be hard to find a better horse. I have to believe that Darby Dan would negotiate on his fee this late in the season, especially with his first foals being 3 year olds.

Good luck.

We have an awesome yearling by him - a correct, well-balanced, well-muscled colt that we are keeping to race.

When I saw him 2 or 3 years agi, I thought that he was a gtrat looking horse. I woul have expected his 3 year olds to be doing something by now. I saw a stat last week that said he had 1 winner in 13 starters in 2005.
