Last year I saw 2 snakes in one day.. (the only 2 i saw all year)
The first one was a HUGE black snake sunning himself..
I am sure I scared him so bad that he moved to another county!
so It took me about an hour to get the nerve to bring my mare and foal in from their paddock and the second I got the shank on the mare I noticed another littler one coiled up in the grass!!
I ran all the way back to the barn... my mare was like.... umm what is this all about.
It was all I could do to walk back out there the next day and I am STILL paranoid about it!
Its prettty sad, but I am scared to death of them!

Karie, you need to head to somewhere like French Guiana, where a private zoo I visited had a nearly 100 ft Anaconda snoozing in a Very Long Pen (the snake was still tripled over himself), and pet one, the skin is quite soft and smooth and they are not at all as fearsome a reptile as an alligator..... my son had a pet black snake in the house called Ringo... his dad bought him a tarantula named Tiffany; which one scared the lights out of me when missing from its terrarium? Hell, the tarantula! Till I found out the poison sac had been removed so she could be sold as a pet.. It was still a long six months till we found her (it was a massive house).
The snakes I fear are the venomous ones, but I fear ALL alligators and other prehistorics like sharks...when an 8ft tiger stole the hogsnapper off my spear it was TIME TO GET OUT OF THE WATER....

So Run for the Roses, as fast as you can.....
When I was young I volunteered at a nature center, and we once had a lady call us and ask, "If I hit a snake in the head with a shovel, will it die?"
That became a running joke for years.
Never had a problem with snakes, myself. This is a good thing, because we once had a cat that liked to catch them and bring them - still alive - in to the house! I'd be woken by my mother screaming blue murder, and have to shuffle downstairs in my pajamas to rescue the hapless snake before George (the cat) put an end to it.
Spiders, on the other hand.....yikes!
Keep 'em away!
