WAITING FOR NEWS ON...

Postby Secretariat73 » Sat Jul 16, 2005 9:53 am

Greetings! I am new to this forum and am active on some others. I have followed TB racing closely for a couple of years, and I started this topic because I'm having trouble finding info on horses that are injured. If there's a central place where this information is available, I haven't found it. I thought I would post this list of recently injured horses that I got off Equibase in hopes that someone here might know how these horses are doing.

If you want, please feel free to add to this thread horses that you hope to learn about or that you know something about.

Any info you can provide would be much appreciated!

Thanks much for the info.

Also, just learned on another forum (cited DRF has source) that Chief Two Crowns (Belmont, 7/7) was euthanized.

Secretariat73, welcome to the forum! Glad to have you with us. Another Secretariat fan (like myself), I presume?

Thanks for your post. We had a thread on this forum some time ago in regards to a number of breakdowns that were occuring at a particular track, but I also found your list of much interest. I hope you'll continue to post this info as you receive it. I have a number of horses (some obscure) in my virtual stable, but this only alerts me to works and races, not injuries.

Thanks again,
Laurie

When the TB are injured, they are vaned off the track to an R&R location.

Their is no documentation reported to the fans as no one takes the time to do so.

This is a bad PR rap for the racetracks, as the fans are left in the dark as to where their favorite TB as gone.

I work at Santa Anita and HP, if you want to know the whereabouts of an injured TB post it and I'll find out about its condition.

Every racetracks web site should post this info on their site as the fans would know what happened to thos injured TB.

Welcome Secretariat73!

I too find that I can not find out if a TB has been destroyed or retired or
simply died without their being a famous name.
I miss the old Bloodstock Review books, they used to publish annual and had a list of obituaries for horses reported deceased.

Thanks all for your welcome and your nice words. I am indeed a Secretariat fan and remember well his Triple Crown races. What a horse! :D

Since I'm retired I have time to search the Equibase charts and get these names, and I'll be happy to continue to do so. So maybe--together--we can find out the status of these horses!

Thanks, LF, for your offer. I agree with everything you said, and I'll be sure to post about any SA or HP horses. You aren't at Del Mar too, are you?

I'll also update the list as I get information.

While we're posting names of "MIA" horses, I have some names to add:

Tiz Showtime (ran mainly at the Arizona track, broke down?)
Me No Toad (ran at Los Al, broke down?)
Jus Ol Bob (broke down)

I don't find Raised Southern in the database. Any info? Is this a Southern Halo? Can someone add him/her? Is he/she okay?

Much thanks!

Must be the one. Here's the info I got off the BC nomination site:
Name: Raised Southern
Sire: I'll Raise You One
Dam: Miss Southern Star
DamSire: Coax Me Chad
Year Foaled: 1999
Area Foaled: OH
Still no info on how she's doing.

Hmmmm. Here's an interesting article about the River Downs surface.

Per River Downs:
The only horse seriously injured and humanely put down was WHATEVERALOHA WANTS. I updated the listing (hope that's okay).
The others (RAISED SOUTHERN, KISHORE) were placed on the Vets' list for lameness or soreness after pulling up. They must provide at least one satisfactory workout for the Vet before he wil allow them to enter to race again.

Don't Explain is, thankfully, OK. She came out of the race body sore but with no other injuries.
