New One on Me! (Warning-Buckets & Big Heads Don't Mix)

Postby Marli » Thu Sep 22, 2005 4:12 pm

Geesh! Horses! Just a little bit ago I heard the horses whinnying to each other, took a look around, didn't see anything out of place. Hmmmm-

I went to feed and my husband has his 'Mr. Ed' horse. Yep, a pretty good look alike, but where his brains are, well, I pretty much know WHERE they are!

This was his predicament-

STUCK! If it hadn't come off within another 10 minutes or so, I was going to phone my vet to tranq. him. He had himself all worked up and sweated. I keep his bucket hanging off the panel and somehow, he managed to get it off the chain and stuck on his head, just above his eyebrows. Everytime I began to pull - he'd pull back, and he's a BIG horse! I swear - just when you think you've seen it all! :)

Here's another of the goofy horse! I've since removed the bucket and now he's got a rubbermaid tub! See what he can do with that!!

Edited to add- WARNING- If you have a horse that has an unusually large head/muzzle, it's advisable to provide a FLAT dished rubbermaid tub or the like for feeding.

Some people are like slinkies. Not really good for anything, but they bring a smile to your face when pushed down the stairs.

 My Shetland pony had a 5 gallon bucket on his head once... poor thing had to wait a good ten minutes for me to stop laughing long enough to help him, after I got myself back under control I found out all that bellowing (echoing inside the bucket) and thrashing about could have been avoided if he just put his head down!!!!!!! As soon as he lowered his head the bucket fell off. Talk about dork!

Thanks for the pics Marli  (and NYBreeder for the imagery haha)--classic...I swear that's hysterical. Reminds me of when my cat got a plastic Walmart bag hung on the end of his tail somehow and he hears it, freaks out totally, and goes flying through the house in a panic thinking he's being chased by a monster. When he first took off, he was on a rug and it started to slip out from under him and it looked like one of those cartoons where the character runs in place for a few seconds before he gets enough traction to take off. We were crying we laughed so hard. He was so ashamed too which made it funnier.

Well, in the pic where it's a side shot, you can really see his personality. He's an arrogant horse, likes to rule the roost (and also the reason he's in solitary for the moment). When I saw that it was really stuck, I just laughed to myself and thought - Good for You!

And he really did look like an ARSE!! Have to say it was one of the *few* times he wanted MY attention....

If you guys think this is funny then you in reality are the funny ones. This is not funny and to think it is is letting the world know you know very little or nothing about horses. Is this what you meant to say? It was a potentially very dangerous situation for your horses and sad that it was laughed at.

Believe me, no one is laughing at what *could* have happened, but what *did* happen... Marli found him soon enough and he was totally unharmed... except for maybe the bucket handle mark across his forehead...

Yes - but it was so close to being a tragedy that there was little humor in it. The distress was there and I cannot in good faith ever laugh at something so close to being heart breaking. Their air was being shut off and it is lucky the handle did not cause a great deal of damage. Perhaps I have seen more near catastrophies than you have.

Just wondering - I am new here. Does TROLL ALERT mean we have a new member and perhaps . . . . . welcome?
