GARY STEVENS WILL RETIRE

Postby louis finochio » Thu Nov 24, 2005 12:27 pm

Gary Stevens will retire on the weekend at Churchill.

I met Gary Stevens when he came down from Idaho to ride at Santa Anita.

Gary won many races right away and went to the top in his profession.

I remember Gary would be playing cards in the jockey room with Bill Shoemaker and Eddie D.

Gary's father is a trainer in Idaho and his mother helps around the barn.

Congrats Gary I wish you all the best in your endeavour's, your friend Lou the Shoe.

Oh yeah, again and again. This is #3 counting Europe....that I know of

Oh, right, he's an actor.......

It's alright though, I won't have to guess if his knees are okay when I bet on him anymore.

Jockeys have a hard, quick life though and too quick for some so I guess I should cut him some slack.

George :)

Okay, allow me to indulge in a girly moment here.

I can honestly say this guy was my only teenage crush. Met him back in 1990 when I was 15 (actually, er... step on him  turned around and bumped into him, nailing his foot) right before his ride on Mister Frisky in the San Rafael. Still have the program he signed for me and the tickets I had my Grandpa bet for me on him.

Guy has got amazing eyes.

okay... I'm going to go do something tomboyish now.

That's what the Bloodhorse and TVG have been saying.

It is a shame to see Gary retire again. I look forward to seeing him on TVG.

I have so many fond memories of Gary and his older brother Scott when they owned the leading Jockey standings at Les Bois park in the late 70's and early 80's.

In 1990 Gary came back to Les Bois to take a mount in the Idaho Centennial Derby. (The 1st, and so far, only 100grand TB race at Les Bois) Showed a heck of a lot of class on Gary's part to remember his roots and come back for that big day at Les Bois.

To update the Post of Lous. Ron Stevens is based at Turf Paradise during the winters. Comes up to Les Bois for the Summer Meet. This year he went to Canterbury for the summer since the race meet this year was cancelled because of a legal dispute.

Ron trained one horse for me. Unfortunately he couldn't run a lick. Currently my brother has one horse under Ron's care.

Best Wishes to Gary in his new profession as an announcer/analyst at TVG.

Regards, Shergar

I was most facinated by his comment that his retirement decision was hinging on whether Rock Hard Ten was going to come back next year to run or not... says a lot for his opinion of RHT...

I hope he goes to TVG because some of their commentators are just plain dull and the presentation is poor. He'll definitely add some class to their on-air presentation. I hear that BC is with TVG next year. They need to clean up their commentators now. I think Jill Burn is great. Sometimes when I watch I think I'm in the presence of a Godfather reality show.

And this time his ex-wife isn't looking to sue him for half his pay  Or...just can't work anymore, so please Mr. Insurance Man, pay me that big settlement  But the real question is....is there room for his ego on racing t.v.?

I must live a very sheltered life. I didn't know all this good gossip about Gary Stevens. Maybe Gary should try out for DESPERATE HOUSEWIVES. I think we need a Gossip Section on this board. Those of us who live in the sticks need to stay informed. Ego or not, if TVG is going to make the best of next years BC they had better start revamping their format and getting some egos in front of their cameras. The last jockey invited to their anchor table at Hollywood Park was terrible. The guy was recuperating from an injury and all I could think of was how I was going to recuperate from He and Mr. B. They put me to sleep before I could take my nightly Tylenol PM and that was mid-afternoon.
