Not even close. Frankly I saw nothing in the horse's performances or his pedigree that would make me think he's going to make it as a sire. I certainly don't see what all the hype is about. He doesn't impress me in the slightest. I don't give a damn how good he looks.

I'm with Halo and Sam on this one too. I stood and looked at Indian Ocean and came away with a big YAWN...

To FOS and AB:You have no idea as to what you are talking about when it comes to stallions ,conformation and how their kids look. I only hope that YOU (FOS & AB) follow your own suggestions...........by the way ,What are your breeding plans for you (FOS and AB) and your mares..........OH! do tell .....do either of you actually own mares!

hi Blewin

You wrote "To FOS and AB:You have no idea as to what you are talking about when it comes to stallions ,conformation and how their kids look."

Blewin, why the personal attack? If some honest comment, opinion or impression (or whatever) ruffled your feathers...I suggest that instead of stooping and taking the low road (which you chose to do)...why not honestly share your thoughts and ideas about the topic(s) at hand. To my way of thinking that's a reason for this board's existence...and why it's so potentially valuable.

After your attack, I found the following post that you wrote some months ago (it is quoted below). It seems to support the notion that maybe an opinion or two that was recently (and/or maybe previously) expressed (re: foals and/or stallions, maybe at a particular farm that you might support) might have rubbed you the wrong way...hmmm. You wrote on Feb 20th "...I flew in to visit my mare that lives under the great care of Ken Breitenbecker ,Stallion Mgr. of CloverLeaf Farms.I was there for 4 days, had a private showing of all of the CloverLeaf Stallions, and was there for the Stallion Show."

In that same Feb 20th post...you (Blewin/signed Carol) described yourself as follows "As I am not a professional trainer,Bloodstock Agent, nor a professional in any way or means in this business,I do not feel qualified to suggest or post my personal opinions about A horse to anyone."

I suggest that if you expressed and shared your honest opinions, impressions etc related to thoroughbreds, instead of venting in the form of a personal attack, we might all benefit. Why not share those honest opinions, impressions etc in a respectful fashion...zip the personal attacks...and put (what might be considered) this bump in the road...in the rear view mirror...and move forward.

I suggest that honest communications (among participants) can be a worthwhile exercise from which many (that visit and/or participate on this board) might benefit...I hope you might agree. Many (on this board) offer differing opinions. Without the mix of honest and often varying viewpoints, ideas etc...arguably the board would serve little purpose.

Best to you.

It is all really a matter of opinion, but some seem to be a bit more overbearing in their expression of their opinion. Some posters are also suspected of having ties to some of the horses they rave about for the simple reason that they do rave and therefore appear to be promoting rather than offering an honest opinion. Some posters may be inclined to be "homers", meaning that they are more likely to be positive about a horse from their region than elsewhere. Some posters have a more heavy handed, authoritive style - whether their style is deliberate or not, it seems these are the posters that suffer from "personal attacks".

2005 Stallion Show

Nobody posted anything about Mr Livingston who was at that show.
Was there no interest in him or was he just unseen? A friend has been pushing me towards him and I would like other opinions on his structure, style, movement and marketability.

hi Shadowrun

From my perspective...Mr Livingston is a nice horse. As a racehorse he was a couple of cuts below the top...nevertheless he won or placed in many stakes (including some graded). One look at him and it's easy to understand why he was capable of starting so often and running up a significant bankroll.

Mr Livingston is easy on the eyes, has a handsome head, a bright eye and an intelligent quality about him. He's maybe a touch shy of 16 HH...has a well proportioned neck that sets nicely into his good shoulder...he has good bone...average quarters with a bit of a flat croup...and a good (but somewhat straight) hind leg. He has plenty of foot and strong-enough pasterns (although he sits down a bit up front). He seems to have a laid-back, kind of relaxed temperment...and is a good walker that has a professional yet easy-going way about him.

If Mr Livingston is on your short list...and you have your heart set on racing early and/or getting one that might get the job done for you in the big-money Florida Stallion Stakes series for two-year-olds...I'd recommend, select a mare for him that can inject some high octane zip. I don't expect that Mr Livingston will bring a whole lot of brilliant early speed to the table (although he might very well deliver some class and soundness)...and I think it's fair to say that his dam's sire Noble Saint (by Vaguely Noble) cannot be depended upon for supplying the zip. With that in mind, if Mr L is on your short list, it might be wise to select a mare for him that has some brilliance and punch up close in her pedigree.

You ask about the prospects for Mr Livingston's marketability. Clearly his sire...El Prado...has earned a spot among the top sires...and is highly regarded by many. Regardless...I expect that Mr L could be a tough sell for many reasons...not the least of which is limited knowledge that the public has of him...and I expect that his dam's sire (Noble Saint) could be difficult for some (if not many) to get past. Furthermore...I don't expect that there will be much of an advertising campaign to spread the word or generate much enthusiasm.

Regardless...Mr Livingston is a nice horse, and it would not surprise me if he came up with some quality runners.

Respectfully

Thank you, FOS, for your thoughtful response on Mr. Livingston. You have drawn a very clear picture for me. It substantiates some of my own thinking, particularly in the area of early speed.

I also agree that he is a nice horse. I like the thought that he raced so long without breaking down.

Unfortunately, the mare I had in mind needs some brilliance injected, herself. So I will be thinking some on this one.

There are an abundance of stallion shows this weekend so I am off to make the rounds. :?
