Any Thoughts/Info on Powerscourt?

At $12,500 I was surprised he wasn't priced higher. Perhaps his confirmation is questionable? He sure could run winnig the Arl. Million twice(though DQed in '04). Sadler's Wells have done well at stud and his bottom side is very good being out of a Rainbow Quest mare.

I think Powerscourt could be a successful dirt as well as turf sire. The Northern Dancer line has certainly had its share of success on both.

Powerscourt could certainly throw horses that could run a distance of ground... something often missing in today's pedigrees. At $12,500 he actually looks to have a bit of value... something rarely find in successful unproven/new sires.

How tall is he actually? I have a pal with a mare bred quite like him who barely bumps the stick at 14.2....

When a horse passes under the wire first, everyone says "he/she's big enough." But when people take their mares to the breeding shed and they have to dig a hole for the mare to stand in.... of course Northern Dancer was one such small horse. But it seems these days that yearlings sell by the inch, not the pedigree/conformation.

With any Sadlers Wells stallion, be sure to check on the heighth. Sligo Bay is only 15.2. His babies are also small so far. That is why they haven't been selling well. but a majority of his sons are on the short end.

Height doesn't bother me as I'd be breeding to race. Many old horseman really liked Northern Dancer before he became the world's greatest sire BECAUSE HE WAS SMALL. They believed that smaller/compact horses held together better than larger/elongated types. I believe they were mostly right.

If Powerscourt is on the "small side" it wouldn't deter me but I suppose it would the commercial breeders.... that and the fact he wasn't a precocious sprinter(just how many of these does the breeding world need?).

I'm far more concerned with Powerscourt's leg conformation. Anyone know? All Ashford shows is a "side shot".

I was going to go to Ashford to look at some stallions but most of their roster--including Powerscourt--isn't currently there. I'll probably see him sometime in the next month, I would think.

LSB- When you see him please post what you think..

I have a mare I was "thinking" of sending to him. I really cant afford the $12,500 stud fee

but its the PERFECT cross for Ceasefire my Doyoun Mare.
I have seen him run a few times, but lost my pictures when my computer crashed

Height isn't as important to me as is his confirmation. My mare is 16.2 and pretty correct, but the front legs on any stallion I breed her to i want PERFECTLY straight...

I am about 8 months pregnant so I doubt I will make it down there before the breeding season to take a look at him. So anyone that could get pictures I would LOVE to see them.

I'm actually due on feb 3rd...

and yep I am scared to death!! I seriously think my 3 mares got together and cursed me into getting pregnant! I think they are just sitting back and laughing at me.

At least I will "foal" just in time for breeding season to start.
I cant imagine being pregnant and trying to breed either of my stallions!

but the good part is its a boy, so I cant wait until he grows up and can help him mom muck out the stalls :lol:

Ah Mixed Blessings.. I put off lots of very physical stuff till "after" my son was born even though I was quite fit and able to do it.. I tiled a floor 8 months pregnant... well anyhow, it wasn't quite that easy. The little bugger had to eat every couple of hours.. I had no sleep.. it was like a ball and chain. And boys don't always help their Moms muck out stalls. Mine is in a tough prep school and has way too much homework.. up at 6, leaves at 6:45, home about 5pm, dinner, homework...

Didn't mean to burst your bubble or anything. Mine is really worth it! And just think, the Online Names Book WON'T apply!!

Okay I'm going to pretend he's not a Coolmore stallion. I really like this horse despite the fact that he's a turf horse who likes distance which will kill him here. His move in the Arlington Million despite being boxed in coming into the stretch was nothing less than breathtaking and he made Kitten's Joy look really slow that day. Female family is solid, but without any notable sire production. Worth a shot at the price if his confirmation is right.

His breeding is TO GOOD for his running style to hurt him THAT much, IMO. Powerscourt went by K's Joy like he was tied-up in the AM. Powerscourt has a half brother by Danehill called Kind that has won races at 5-6 furlongs in Europe. Sadler's Wells has certainly proven to be a "sire-of-sires".

I finally saw a picture of him in the new Stallion Register and he is 'okay' is about all you can say. Hard to see what his confirmation actually is as all they give is a "side shot" per usual. I suspect he may have some issues confirmationally to be at $12,500 but without seeing who knows.

I don't have the Bloodhorse, but in the TB Times directory his height isn't listed, so I suspect he's small.

Ashford's stallion book lists Powerscourt at 16.0 1/2. That's a flat lie. Kitten's Joy is supposedly 16.1 1/2, which I'd believe. I've seen both in the flesh and Powerscourt is not very big. He's certainly more than an inch shorter than KJ. If he's more than 15.2 1/2, I'd be surprised.
