Any broodmare potential

Postby Tylerfarm » Tue Jul 25, 2006 9:23 am

I will probably never breed this mare for racing, but am curious. I don't know much about determining crosses etc. Thanks for your input.

Thanks for that! I did look him up.

I guess more what I'm asking at this point is...Is she something you would consider breeding?

If yes, to who would have been my next question. Thanks again!

When a foal of her is catalogued, there would be no black type until the 4th dam.

 Oh boy, that lost me. Can you tell I'm not a TB breeder?

Going to get familiar with black type etc......

Thanks!

For a racehorse? No. Make that -- Never.

For anything else .. would depend on your expectations.

Thanks for that.

I'm just curious, really have no plans to breed racehorses. I was just curious what knowledgeable race people thought of her pedigree. I'm not pretending to know anything about racehorse breeding. I know names of some, and bits of info on others. It does interest me, and I'm just trying to learn.

Thanks for the honesty. What makes you go from no to never, if you will?

There's just not enough pedigree here.

Wheaton was crap as racehorse and only went to stud because he's a half to Storm Cat. The fact that he's done as well as he has as a sire is an anomaly. He gets runners, but there's little quality. I can't fault his numbers as a sire or a broodie sire too much (his stakes winners is too low, but the rest of them are decent enough for a PA sire), but it's just not enough to make up for what's lacking on the bottom of this mare's pedigree.

I don't have a race record for her, but I'm going to assume it's not much to write home about? Her dam (Avalina) isn't producing much to talk about and neither did her dam (Consolata), so you'd be faced with a foal whose first three dams would be blank and non-producing.

Consolata's dam (O. K. Doll) did managed to foal a single restricted stakes winner, but the rest of her foals were fairly useless. Consolata herself was useless, going 0 for 10 in her life.

So you have to go back to Champagne Cathy's third dam to find any black type .. which means you would have to go back to the 4th dam of any foal out of her before you find anything of decent quality.

Don't breed this mare. Not for racehorses anyway.
