Bernardini

Postby Barbaro06 » Sat Jul 29, 2006 3:15 pm

The Diana was more exciting to watch than the Jim Dandy. Yeah, cool, he won by daylight. But to start comparing him to Cigar and the other greats, that's a bit much. I am an old hag that wants to see him beat older horses, carry weight (more than 126), and maybe give the turf a try.

I hope he has more competition in the Travers...have a horse tackle him and make him really work for the win. I would hate to fall asleep during the mid summer Derby...

He's a beautiful colt no doubt, but you know what that usually means...he's making babies before his racing plates cool.

Bernardini is the real deal. Sunriver was his only comp and that horse hates a sloppy track. The rest of the horses in that race are top level allowance horses at best. Nevertheless, Bernardini took care of business like a top flight horse is suppose to do.

Bernadini could be any kind and only the catastrophe of Barbaro took the shine of a VERY impressive move he made in the Preakness. He is a fresh young horse at the right time who could go places. When these horses start breaking track records then I shall take a long look but this horse is exciting and we need a good one to follow now.

Bernardini has 10 crosses of Phalaris and is in need of an outcross.

B dam Cara Rafaela, by Quiet American gave B that outcross, and we can all see the result.

Champions are born of outcrossing.

Someone tell Bernardini to retire now. He has too many lines to Phalaris to be a champion.

I had the good fortune of seeing him break his maiden at GP on Fountain of Youth day. I thought he was the "horse of the day" and there were some awfully nice horses running on the card that day i.e First Samurai/Jazil/Funny Cide/ among a host of other top runners that day, yet the one horse who stood out was Bernardini in a maiden race going 1 mile that he won by 7 lengths in a very classy performance as he ran "straight as a string" widening with every stride in easy fashion in excellent time. I bet him pretty good in the Preakness based off his maiden win and he returned $27 to win that day. Not to take anything away from Barbaro but I don't believe he would have beaten Bernardini in the Preakness as he ran a monster race. Today, he reaffirmed his class with another top performance. He is an AWFULLY nice horse going a distance of ground. We'll see what he does the rest of the year but rest assured he's a "stone runner"... just hope we get to see him run 3-4 more times before seasons end.

What I think is someone needs to stop screwing with the stakes information. I've had to fix his entry 3 times already and the races is only about 5 hours old.

AGES, not years. What the hell good does it do to know a horse won [X] race in 2006 if you don't know how old he was when he won it? Some people seem to forget we have Southern Hemisphere users here. If I see a kiwi that says "2003: Won [X] race", unless I know that race is age restricted, I have NO IDEA how old the horse was. Same applies for us Americans. What good does it do for the Aussies to know a shuttle stallion won a handicap in 2004 if they don't know how old the horse was when he won it?

And stop abbreviating "Breeders' Cup' to "BC". Not everyone thinks "BC" means "Breeders' Cup" Some actually think it means "British Columbia". Seriously, unless we're talking about a Forego where you're slamming your head against the character limit SPELL THE DAMN THING OUT!.

and since I'm being pissy ... could we NOT have the "rest in peace sweet baby" comments added when a horse dies? That's just stupid.

See only a puppy eater would say that

Seriously folks anybody who didn't think that horse was impressive today needs to have their head examined. Competition aside...he put put a legit pace running over a sloppy track for the first time getting moderate pressure the whole way and he jogged home and won by nine. Castellano was checking himself out in the video screen for cripes sakes.

I totally agree with Wilf. Do not let getting caught up in the Barbaro fiasco detract from the fact that this horse laid down a monster Preakness and looked very, very good today and Sheikh Mo is not a man to rush one off to stud, so he could be around for a while if he stays sound and I don't think there's a 3yo to challenge him in the Travers (sorry Steppenwolfer  ) and we've yet to see what the handicap ranks are going to shake out to with Lava Man the big gun in Cali and Invasor (me likey) and Flower Alley in NY. Plus, (Sam put down that bat ) Bellamy Road could come back to show he was no fluke (although at this point its looking less likely) and you never know with Giacomo if he gets his trip.

All in all, handicap season could be fun, but Bernardini announced loud and clear he's a baller today.

Then I say if Bernardini wins the Travers impressively, he's a wrap for 3 year old colt of the year.

Do you think he would have another race before the Breeder's Cup Classic or that his connections would play it safe and train him up to that race? Does he do well with more time off?

I think if (or should I say when?!) he wins the Travers then he will just train into the BCC. He would have about 65 days between starts which is not unusual in this era. It would be his 7th start in 10 months which is about right for a good horse. If he can stay relatively sound this horse borders on being as good as any we've seen the last 15 years or so... but that's a BIG if. Still, he is impressive and he loves a distance of ground.

That's what I was saying after the Preakness...

Let's wait until he ACTUALLY races this year before we say his Wood was a fluke. Hell, I'm not even sure he's going to make it back. I think I've had one friggin work from him so far ... this does not instill great confidence.

He made for a nice hat though. :D My mother keeps trying to steal it.
