I just discovered this neat bulletin board here, but I use the pedigreequery site often (TOO often, lol!) Anyway, I might possibly be daddy shopping next year, and I would like to find OLD sporthorse type lines. Any suggestions? (Names or websites for stallions, or just direction on where to look. I've looked on equine.com and dreamhorse.com, and I've found the texas thoroughbred website so far.) I'm not opposed to travelling across country for an awesome stud, but primarily looking central/ southwest. TIA!

Sea Accounts (all around sporthorse) at DeBracy sporthorses is in TX. Aly Dark (jumpers) I think is in CA but not sure exactly where. Timely Roberto (hunters) is at Red Fox Farm in TX. Canadian Kid(hunters) is down south......Alabama I think. Castle Cove (VA), Noble Houston (MI), Sum Jazz (NC) are other proven hunter sires a little farther from you. Horses I know something about that are also nice.......A Fine Romance (Canadian but stands in MD for breeding season/hunters), Innkeeper (MD/eventing), Literati (nice looking newer at stud in CA),Classic Copper (moved from VA to FL), Ransom Paid (new at stud in OH).
Of course I loff my guy but we are in PA. There really are stallions a lot closer to your requested area.
***Edited to add: these are not necessarily old SH lines. Just the SH TB stallions I think are quite good. You can poke around their pedigrees!
For older "up front pedigrees" I would look at these guys
Sea Accounts (Graustark/Damascus), Castle Cove (Clavier/Herbager/Intantionally), Sum Jazz (Secretariat, Sea Bird, Speak John, The Minstrel), Literati (Nuryev, Forli, Nearco),Ransom Paid (Hail To Reason/Damascus, Prince John) and Classic Copper. Most of CC's pedigree is not old classics but you don't see Hill Prince up front like him much.

I've come across some of those already, thanks for all the suggestions. I'm really looking for older hard to find lines like Good Twist or Bonne Nuit somehow up close, but I'm not finding any through pedigreequery or thoroughbredtimes.

I really don't know of anything still standing with those lines.

I don't know if he's still breeding [born in 1986] but since you're in Texas, consider looking at Trapp Mountain. Our stallion is one of his sons -- 16.2+ h, sound, sane & rideable. He was in race-training at age 11 [should have come of a couple years sooner, in my opinion]. What a mind. What conformation, bone & soundness.

We had occasion to x-ray our stud's ankle to rule out an injury & our vet was amazed at how little wear & tear was on a TB who was in race-training this long.

I've looked up several of Trapp Mountain's other offspring & grand-babies & many race longer than you'd expect.

We've had die-hard warmblood fans approach us to let us know that if our stud were available to non-TBs, they'd be interested.

Look at his sire, Trapp Mountain, if you're breeding for sport.

[Good to hear Sam's Old Kentucky Home recommendation, by the way -- I've often wondered his stud fee, myself.]

I have looked at OKH too since Sam made a couple posts with his picture. He does look very much like his sire. No doubt he received a healthy share of chromosomes from him.

Sam do you know what his history is? He ran 4 races it appears, did he bow or some other reason for not having a longer career? If not, I'll give the farm a call.

I'm reminded of my past racehorse named Catch and Release. He raced 97 times and loved the grass, retired at eleven. I don't know his whereabouts, but his owner races nearby. His picture is in the database. He was a gentleman, a true professional.

I have found Bonne Nuit descendants still assumed alive-- but their owners are hard to contact.

A few Bonne Nuit mares and a stallion went through a public auction in 2002 in Illinois-- They might still be in the midwest region? I have no idea if they went to breeding homes.
