Hi folks:
I have a nice young mare , currently taking a year off, that I am looking to breed in February. She has a Langfuhr 2 y/o filly in training who might be something special and i am hoping she will "make the mare" by late Spring.
I am considering breeding to either of these sons of Harlan and there are good things to say about both. Menifee seems to be a real "sleeper" , probably becuase he doesnt get the press....but he makes racehorses, or so it seems. Harlan's Holiday looks like he has a real shot at sticking around. babies are selling very well and he pushes Phalaris further away in the gene pool. he would also give me a nice cross to Raise a Native without duplicating Mr P.
There are many ways to go with this mare, These are two I'm considering. Would appreciate your comments ...Mare is Never Out, exTake Me Out, 1999. G2 placed.
menifee or harlan's holiday?

You might also consider two sons of Storm Cat with interesting linebreeding on your mare. Bernstein brings in 5x5 Raise a Native, and Vision and Verse brings in Bebopper 5x6. Menifee is fairly crooked, and you would need to watch that with your mare. I like his pedigree match better than Harlan's Holiday, and Menifee is coming down in price, while HH is going up. A lot depends on whether your goal is sales or breed-to-race. Another with Halo inbreeding is More Than Ready.

hi henthorn...hi johnrr88...hello all
An understatement maybe?
Menifee (from my perspective) offers a front end that might appeal to a breeder with a HUGE appetite for rolling the dice. All things considered, can one honestly justify or even rationalize that the odds for a successful result are worth what might be described as a super-sized risk?

Bebopper is actually 4 x 5 in the hypo-mating with Vision and Verse. She is an outstanding broodmare ancestor, found in a lot of fine racehorses' and stallions' pedigrees. And her dam Bebop is ancestress of Buckaroo.
You can use the database pedigree page to right-click on a name and get what progeny have been entered for that horse.
Raise a Native is one of the premier sires in North American pedigrees, known for adding a lot of speed and quality to the breed, especially through Mr. Prospector and his sons, Exclusive Native, Majestic Prince, and Alydar. 5 x 5 is not considered by most people to be too close to be compounding possible unsoundness, which is sometimes found in sons of Raise a Native.
I second Grand Reward; an excellent pedigree and physical specimen, and nice 5 x 5 Halo inbreeding.

Thanks one and all for replies. I didnt know Menifee was so crooked up front.
I was also considering the obvious. ie: Pleasantly Paerfect or Pleasant Tap for her but she is a big mare and I need a medium sized stallion. I fear that Pleasnat Tap is too large and coarse for her and i'm not ready to pay the big price for the unproven Pleasantly Perfect despite his beautful linebreeding matchup with her.
I actually received a "professional" recommendation to take her to Arch because of his great confirmation. But this would fly in the face of conventional wisdon about avoiding the duplication of male tail in the sireline. Any opinions on that match?
Henthorn: I'll check out Suave.
