I have spoken to Brian about the Breeder's Cup tickets. They will be given away in pairs with hotel and air fair. They are for Churchhill Downs, good seats. Close in, second row, I believe it's at the 16th pole.
Some owners have agreed to donate breedings to some really nice stallions to those who purchase mares.
This is going to be more than just a sale. It's an opportunity for Texas horsemen and others to meet and get to know one another and have some fun on top of buying and selling horses. It's going to be an EVENT.

There was a recent post on the Texas Thoroughbred website by Brian that indicated the catalogue will be online by Oct. 12th, and copies available by the 19th and of course at the sale itself. He said that has been the most difficult part about trying to do this first sale in such a short time frame.

Some people are posting information about their entries on the TTA site, TexasThoroughbred.com, but of course no where near all of them -- rumored to be somewhere between 140 and 150 entries. According to the information from Brian at the same site, there have been 14 stallion breedings donated for the raffle. No list of which stallions yet, but I expect some good ones, considering some of the Texas breeders who are backing this sale.

They are making a real effort to get the word out about the sale. It seem to be working for consigners, but of course they need buyers. I suspect that some pioneers will get some real impressive buying opportunities at this first Weatherbys sale.

If you go to the sale website, they now have a link for the sale catalogue. At the moment, it only has listings of sires, dams, covering sires, etc. but the full pages should be available by 1 p.m. today. At first glance, the Texas owners and breeders have really made an effort to make this first sale a success. Hope it will get the buyer support that it deserves.

Hope to see some of you at the sale. Just got my Touch Tone filly bathed and clipped today before the cold front moved in! Even if I end up bringing her home, I decided it would be good experience for her to get out and about. Like taking the show horses to a schooling show, b4 a recognized show. :D

I am going up on Friday, and should be there before the viewing at 4:00 pm. I will definitely make it a point to look at your filly. I think this sale is going to be fun, and I hope profitable for the consigners. Hard to know who will be there at this point.

There is a lot of buzz on another forum about hip # 11. Plan to check out that one as well, but I suspect it will be way beyond my budget.

Horses and auctions are addictions. I went to the sale, and of course bought a broodmare in foal -- like I really need another mouth to feed with hay prices out of sight. Still, she was too good to pass up!

The sale was a pretty good effort for the first time, on such short notice. I really enjoyed myself and saw a lot of nice horses. Toadie, if your entry was hip # 46, she is beautiful. For the sale, she got a good bid, but I don't think it was high enough for her quality. Hope you did not sell???

The stallion raffles and Breeder's Cup trips were very popular. I did not win a trip, darn it. I think the venue was great, and Ft. Worth is fun. Can't wait for next year, when I am sure it will build on a good beginning.

Bedouwia .... Thankyou! yes that was her, and no, I didn't sell. They really weren't too far off of my reserve, but I had made up my mind and there wasn't any changing it. Haha. Needless to say my "partner" wasn't thrilled when we BOTH came back home. :x
Which mare did you buy? I purposely did not go look at all the horses, because I know I would have brought something else home, and then I'd have really been in trouble!
Sorry I didn't seek anyone out from the board, but I was so nervous I just couldn't concentrate. I've worked sales b4, but it's a whole lot different when it's your own baby.

Are they planning to upload the results onto the catalog pages? That would be really interesting, informative, and educational.

I don't know if they are going to post a results list or not. There is some discussion of a few entries on the TTA forum. Most of the feedback so far is mixed results, but positive. There will definitely be a sale next year according to Brian.

I bought hip # 45, a Sadlers Wells line mare in foal to Sand Ridge. I should say that I had no intention of buying anything, but it was too good to pass up. I have a Sand Ridge weanling that I am very impressed with. If this mare produces anything like this one, I will be a very happy buyer.

Inaugural Wetherbys Mixed Sale in Fort Worth records gross of $221,050, Woodman colt tops sale

10/24/2006

The Wetherbys Fall Mixed Sale, the first new Thoroughbred auction in Texas in many years, recorded gross sales of $221,050 on October 21. The sale, operated by Texas breeder Brian Wallis, was held at the Will Rogers Memorial Center in Fort Worth.

According to results provided by Wetherbys, a total of 64 horses sold from 110 offered for an average of $3,454 and a median of $1,000. The buy-back rate came in at 42%. By comparison, last year’s Fasig-Tipton Texas December Mixed Sale recorded gross sales of $600,500 with an average of $3,753 and a median of $2,000 for 160 horses sold. The buy-back rate at that sale was 36%.

“I put this sale together in less than six weeks, and I feel it was a total success and a great starting point,” said Wallis, who stands stallions Baron de Vaux, The Great Prize and High Estate (Ire) at his Dormello Stud near Decatur. “This will be an annual event and I am working out the details for a 2-year-old in training sale as well.”

Dormello Stud ranked as the sale’s top consignor with 29 horses sold for $155,150, which equated to 70% of the gross. Vincent Sessa led all buyers with six purchases for $61,350. Among Sessa’s purchases was the sale topper, a yearling colt by Woodman for $53,000. Consigned by Dormello and named Dubai Warrior, the Kentucky-bred is out of a Val de l’Orne (Fr) mare who has produced five winners from as many starters. The second highest priced sale, a yearling filly sired by Breeders’ Cup Turf (G1) winner Fantastic Light, sold for $50,000. No other horses sold for more than $11,000.

The sale also included a raffle for seasons to more than a dozen Texas stallions as well as three trips to this year’s Breeders’ Cup at Churchill Downs. For hip-by-hip results, visit www.wetherbys.org.
