Worst example I can think of is Winloc's Millie.

This was the one from the thread "how bad is this". I remember seeing this thing run (badly if I recall correctly).

You can do either or .. it's an old wives' tale (that started with the Arab breeders) than you should only do father to daughter.
I think it's down right idiotic no matter HOW you do it.

Hallo,
have a look at the German broodmare Goldhenne (= Golden Hen!)
She 1x2 to the 3/4 brothers Birkhahn/Bürgermeister (=Mayor). She is the dam of Grimpola, won German 1000 Guineas, one more example of German in- and linebreeding. She is now the Granddam of at least
6 descents, who have listed or even Groupstandard. When you do deeper look in their peds they are 4 - 6times linebred to Bramouse.
Another example of very close inbreeding is Agamemnon (by Herold),
he is 1x3 to Herold. He is only to find in nowaday peds in the sire Prince Ippi.
Best regards, Bettina

While most of the in-breeding has been done to the dominant stallions.
Their is another way that in-breeding has produced some talented TB.
In-breeding and line-breeding to Blue Hen and foundation mares has produced its share of quality runners.
When these individuals are sent to the breeding shed, many of their offspring are diamonds in the rough. As the in-breeding is then outcrossed and hybrid vigor is the result, adding more soundness and quality to the breed. This is an example of a double edged sword.
