Rags To Riches Out of CCA Oaks
Rags to Riches is out of the Coaching Club American Oaks this weekend due to a slight fever. Pletcher said her next start will be the Alabama for 3YO fillies at Saratoga. :>( TJ

hi Maven
Are you saying that Boca Grande is not good enough to win a G1? If so, don't you think that she might benefit from circumstances (including the defection of a star or two) that might enhance her chances to win a G1?
After all...wasn't that the case when 4-yo colt Political Force won the G1-Suburban...his first stakes-win ever, and only his 4th win (overall) from 15 lifetime starts (he was also 2nd in a G1 [the Metropolitan], 2nd in one G3, and third in two G3s).
Certainly when superstar racehorse Invasor was scratched from the G1-Suburban, Political Force (and ALL other entrants for that matter) benefitted...don't you think? Even then, Political Force was sent off at 5 to 1 (and paid $12 to win). Apparently many were not confident that he coud pull it off...despite the absence of Invasor.
For comparison's sake...the filly Boca Grande is a 3-yo who has won 3 of 7 lifetime starts...including two Grade 2s (and was third in the G1-Mother Goose).
That said...for you to rule out the possibility that Boca Grande might win at least one G1, seems (to my way of thinking) to be an unreasonable conclusion at this time.

She's not good enough, in my opinion, to win the CCA Oaks if the field remains as is with the defection of Rags. She's one of the second tier fillies in this race. In my opinion, she's running for a placing. I specifically said "this race" for a reason.
Now, G1's down the line? Who knows. Every race depends on it's field, as you well know.

Don't be so humble - you are not that great.

When she loses, do you think we'll be entertained with posts about how he's merely stacking the deck and waiting for her big performance in the BC Distaff?
oooooooh... BAD SAM! Damnit, Maven. Now you have me doing it.

hi Maven
Fair enough...your opinion is noted.
Fair enough again...but if she wins, would you describe her as a second tier filly that won the Oaks...or might you retroactively redefine her? I just want to better understand your thought process.
Maven...what was your opiniion of, and/or how would you have described/categorized Political Force going into the G1-Suburban...second tier, or what? Again...just trying to get a better handle on your thought/evaluation process.
Best to you.

I dunno about Maven, but one race does not make a horse top tier, IMO. IF Political Force can duplicate that Suburban win, I might consider him amoung the top handicappers in the country.
At this point, I wouldn't even call Boca Grande second tier. More like third rate. That last race was pathetic and if that's all she's capable of, she doesn't belong in G1 fields.
