Splash Of Vanilla

Postby framed » Wed Jan 19, 2011 8:39 pm

Here are some pics for the paly fans. Splash Of Vanilla went back through the Keeneland January mixed sale this past Friday. Out of Maid of Gold. Was interesting to listen to the murmurings of a few folks who saw her go through. Very pretty head, and all grown up this time around. She sold for $4200. Attaching a couple of pics of Splash Of Vanilla. One of the Legacy Bloodstock handlers said she was headed for the Phillipines, not sure if he was accurate.

She is a lot stockier looking then her mom. Especially in the hindquarters. Her mom was not bad looking at all...this filly just seems to have a little more junk in the trunk.

She is lovely! No QH looks there. Too bad she's headed overseas.

Dunno about Qh-ish but she does have a big rear! And looks built downhill. Then again the cresty neck lends me to me to think she is a bit on the fat side. Pretty head.

Where DO these stories start!!!

Ive spoken to her owner. She is either going to be bred to an older, established TB sire in KY and then go home in foal, or the other option they are mulling over is to breed her to a very nice hunter (WB) stallion and sell the foal as a show prospect. Ive recommended Bliss MF as a nice choice for her ... :)

The owners are very much involved in the "high end" of the racing / breeding end of things, TB wise and will absolutely do the right thing for her if they breed to a TB sire. And they also recognize that her foal will not fetch much at the sale and they will probably have to keep it and run it themselves

I did have to laugh though. They have a VERY well bred TB mare who is very tall and her offspring finish up in the 17hh+ range which is generally the kiss of death for race horses. He is mulling over breeding her to either Hickstead ($5500.00 stud fee - frozen - no LFG guarantee) or one of the Iron Spring stallions - Consul. He was wondering why the stud fee was so LOW  and I had to explain that $5500.00 was a pretty darned hefty price tag for semen for show horses and $1000.0 - $2000.00 was more the norm ... :)

So - if I hear of any further updates, I'll let you know ...

"Stories"? That's why the comment read "not sure the Legacy employee was "accurate". Just what I was told face to face by an employee of Legacy Bloodstock, the seller's agent, that was right by the sale ring when I asked who purchased her. The reason for the post was purely and simply to share pics of her. Sure wasn' t meant to be an "I'm in the know" posting and sorry that the focus was misunderstood. Always nice when someone posts a polite correction.
She was very pretty in person. Did appear to be over weight, but was shiny, healthy and very well behaved. As I like a number of different body types, I found her to be very attrative....opinion only of coarse.

framed - sorry - :) - I meant "where do these stories come from" regarding the employee saying that to you!!!

The owner does appear to be from that area of the world - perhaps they thought thats where he lived now and thats where the mare is heading to as well?!

And thanks for posting the nice pictures of her as well - I got some sent of her at the farm in KY but yours were much better of her ... :)

I've always been a Consul fan, too. I like this mare, but she'd be an uphill battle, as a racehorse broodie for a commercial foal. A Consul foal out of her would be very interesting.

Well that makes me happy! She is just too drop dead freaking gorgeous to go overseas. I know who I'd breed her to and I know a few of you do too!

I wonder why no racetrack has developed a racing program (stakes races etc.) based on rare phenotyped Thoroughbreds as a way of attracting racing fans. One of the best kept secrets is that, apparently, racing fans are indifferent to horses of a different color. Wrong, they love'em but racing fans are too cool to admit they are nuts about flamboyant colored equines. But just develop a racing program and you will see what happens. But the program has to be serious and reiterated. You don't have to produce Gr-1 candidates but just a reiterated program. Something similar to the "Gray Ghost" stakes, which is reserved for gray Thoroughbreds. Why not establish the "Grand Flamboyant Stakes Series", with one $100,000 race for Cremellos, another for Perlinos, Buckskins, Palominos, and another one for White Thoroughbreds?

I guess there would not be enough of them that are sent there but ONE for ALL of the colors that might work - but I am sure it will NEVER happen.
