Mating for AVERA (Monsun)

Postby dylan thomas » Wed Feb 21, 2007 7:05 am

Hello, i'm new at the forum. I'm spanish and i bought avera (GER) 2001 Monsun / Anna Leone (Caerlon). She's in foal to Desert Prince to born in March and we're looking for her stallion for this year at Europe. She's half sister to one Gr.3 placed second anad another Listed placed second.

I like for her Black Sam Bellamy (6.500 €, from the same family)
Lando (10.000 €)
Paolini ( 4.000 €)

From Spain
Dyhim Diamond (3.000 €)
or Delfos (1.500 €) but we dont want to use a spanish stallion.

Could you advise me for this breeding season?

I will be very granted,

Dylan Thomas

I like Black Sam Bellamy, and I don't know how far your budget stretches but I like her with Cacique as well.

Thank you so much for your answer. Possibly we try a foal-sharing, perhaps for next year with better stallions. Cacique would be great.

Some new ideas:

Craigsteel - excellent classic pedigree, practically an outbreeding
Bienamado - idem - underrated - cheap (2000 euro)
Kris Kin
Alhaart - 17.500 euros - The cross Monsun/unfuwain reversed has prove successfull

As you have 3 German based sires in your current short list: is the mare still in Germany? (btw Lando stands at stud in France - we tried to discuss him a short time ago)

Your proposals show a preference for a middle distance / staying sire. Is this your intention?

Monsun is a staying sire, too, although he has many good 2yo on the course. Avera showed her best performance as a 2yo, too.

As Monsun is still a young BMS with only few grandchildren running till now there is no breeding pattern apparent actually. A good one this year in GER was Inter Mondo by Hondo Mondo by Caerleon, with a high official handicap-rating of 90 kg - Avera's pedigree reverted. 8)

Paolini is a very interesting young sire, he combines two leading broodmares in Germany from recent times (Prairie Darling and Laurea).

There is a website about him online, where you can find pictures of his kids: www.paolini-world.de .

Of the horses mentioned, Paolini had the best finishing speed and he tended more to a 9 to 10f horse in comparison to Lando or Black Sam Bellamy whose forte was 12f or more. And look at Paolini's fee!

Dalahkani might produce a dour tough horse you can have fun with, or Key Of Luck, Anabaa is gone but this guy already has one star. Or maybe Val Royal, shirocco is out of a The Minstrel mare so the Nijinski line might work. She has a lovely pedigree best of luck
