Off hand....I don't think Quiet American was sound, but he's sired some pretty good, durable horses. Of his best, Naughty New Yorker, Cara Rafaela, Hidden Lake, Fifty Stars, and even Real Quiet all made 20 starts or more. Today, that's as durable as it gets!

1. Yes.
2. Cryptoclearance.
The problem with the Unbridleds is that most of them were BIG and rushed so they weren't exactly unsound, just badly managed. Then they started getting popular as sire prospects, it was all over but the signing at that point.
Fappiano had a handful of good, sound sons who went on to be stallions. A. P Jet (36 starts), All Gone (43), Defensive Play (26), Fappiano's Star (49), Lil Fappi (28), Musical Fappi (54), Pentelicus (35), Rubiano (28), Signal Tap (24), T H Fapppiano (32), Tasso (23). That could be the broodmares he was bred to... LOTS of In Reality in there.
It's not Fappiano that was throwing unsound horse... there was some rumours that he wasn't a Mr. Prospector because he was so different from the "normal" Mr. Ps

Can anyone comment on Grindstone's temperament in general?
Thanks

Rokeby,
I don't want to start an entirely different subject here, but I saw what you had posted about Quiet American. What's your general opinion on him as a broodmare sire now? It seems he is gaining momentum??? I only ask because we have an '06 filly by him that we can't decide wether to sell in Sept, or keep and try to run.
Maybe this has been a subject on another thread, but my brain has turned to mush (it doesn't take long!!!!).

Its odd that you bring up QA in the same thread as Grindstone. I would really not be interested in either as the sire of someone that I am looking to race, but I will look at every QA or Grindstone mare in a breeding stock sale. QA has already established himself as a top BM sire today (Saint Liam, Bernardini, Cherry Mix etc.) and Grindstone, I believe, is on the crest of getting there. Whereas QA mares are now pricier, I'm not sure if the market has caught up on the Grindstone side.
