Anyone seen him? Anyone breeding to him?
I am sending Ceasefire (fr) to him this year. He already has a stakes placed winner with a Doyoun mare. I really like this cross.
I think he is a great match with my mare which is a HARD one to find a stallion that fits her.

I don't know much about MOK except his statistics, which honestly scare me. I was initially interested in the stallion when I saw he was going to stand stateside in 2007, he looks great from the photo but then his stats are abysmal imo.
For starters he has 455 foals of racing age of which only 170 (37%) are starters, of which only 64 have won (37% f/starters) with only 3 stakes winners (under 1%). He has 10% lifetime winners f/starters, median earnings of $2,009, and AEI .90 vs CI .98.
I certainly don't want to rain on your parade, and I understand he sired Araafa (G1 $726,181 which accounts for 1/3 of his gets lifetime earnings), but his performance is very suspect even with European earnings.
'Belong to Me" at $12,500 would be a much better value for a son of Danzig imo.

Cryptic Ninja -I personally dont like this cross, mares from the "Never Bend" line is best crossed with Sadler's Wells. If you dont fancy breeding a 12+ furlong horse, I would recomemd a speedy Nureyev type or a Mr P stalion.
That is fine.. the good thing is that it ISNT your mare. I like the cross. I am not afraid to admit my mare is bred to run a mile and a half on the grass (her sire is the sire of 2 Breeders Cup winners Daylami and Kalanisi) and breeding her to a Danzig horse should add some speed.
I have bred her to a son of Storm Cat (Black Minnaloushe) and in 2007 she is in foal to Castledale (there's some Nureyev).
I am not a fan of Mr. Prospectors sons with the Mill Reef nick.
Sons of Nureyev.. well .. Who within reason is there? I am in MI and I know Atticus & Skimming are in CA... and Theatrical is out of my price range. If I like the Castledale 2007 foal I might send her back to him next year.

Don't pay to much.
He is Ok but when Ashford is willing to drop $2500 on him...They are not to convinced of his abilility. I would assume they are not fillinf that book to fast.

In Mr P's defense Floral Pegasus is a real star in Hong Kong at the moment and he's by Fu Peg out of a Mill Reef mare
Daylami's best son Grey Swallow is out of a The Minstrel mare so a Nijinsky line stallion like Royal Academy or Sky Classic might be a good bet. The great Lammtarra is still around but in Dubai.
Danzig nicks so well with everything and Mill reef is a phenomenal broodmare influence in europe, Antonius Pius is a good example of the cross
You're on a hiding to nothing with most northern dancer lines as long as you stick to turf (which you would with a Doyoun mare anyway) The only one that I would avoid is Storm Cat because the Secretariat/Bold Ruler might dominate the slightly more refined Mill Reef
Anyway good luck, I'd love to own a mare like yours
Mull of Kintyre in GB, I'll try and find more info.

Nu
I wouldn't be too concerned about them dropping the stud fee on him - a few stallions stud fees dropped this year when the new stallions entered stud, even 2nd crop sires. If they want your mare and your business most farms will drop their fees. When I was at Ashford they were pretty high on this guy and pretty hopeful. I got the impression they were going to be supporting his offspring.
Good luck Karie - we all roll the dice when we select a stallion for our mare!

Karie I know it's not answering your original topic (Mull of Kintyre) but I really do like Royal Academy on paper with Ceasefire. With mares who were sired by Mill Reef or his male-line descendants Shirley Heights, Darshaan, Doyoun, Slip Anchor, and Reference Point, he has about 27 individual winners and 8 stakes winners from some 40-odd foals (according to the Coolmore website). That's a pretty good strike rate. On top of that his exceptional son Val Royal is out of a Bikala mare (your mare's 2nd damsire). I don't put a lot of faith in Royal Academy's median and average earnings per the Bloodhorse stallion register, as they are lumping the results of all his foals worldwide. I suspect that if you teased out only his european runners or north american runners that the median would be much higher.
I know free advice is only worth what you pay for it, but Royal Academy is a lot of horse (IMHO) with a proven pedigree, who should fit her well for next year.

It'd be great to get a filly out of that mating (hypothetical though it may be) Royal Academy is going to be a great broodmare sire, he alrady has Fastnet Rock (By Danehill) in Australia.
I think Danzig's a good cross with just about anything, that's the beauty of him and his son's.
Australia is not a good guide for the cross as Mill Reef has a limited impact here but I think the resultant foal would suit europe to a tee
