Mr Sekiguchi finally wins his NW1

Postby Rokeby Forever » Fri Mar 02, 2007 10:28 pm

Did you see the form on the 52:1 shot he necked out in this win? I think it's gonna be a little hard for Baffert to get Mr Sekiguchi (human) paid out with this horse.

Let's have a contest. Mr Sekiguchi will no doubt join a long list of Storm Cat sons standing for $5,000. Where do you think he'll stand?

A) Arizona
B) New Mexico
C) Louisiana
D) Peru
E) Korea
F) Dark side of the moon
G) Other: _________________(fill in)

It's not like these guys haven't been around racing long enough to know it's bad luck to name a horse after yourself. What the hell were they expecting?

Telly's Pop and Jacklyn Klugman are the only two I remember being any good and named for their owners.

eta

Actually, looks like he's 2 for 4 with 2 seconds. $85k in earnings. If you didn't know how much he cost, that's actually pretty damn good.

I say Baffert will gun him for the next renewal of the 2 furlong Rocket Man Stakes at Calder--a win there will assure a full book in Florida at $10,000.

I don't think he's eligable, Michael. Isn't that for FL/CA breds?

I'm with you on the $10k in FL, though.

I am not 100% positive, but I think it's an open stakes race. If not, Mr. S (the man) need only pull out his pocketbook one more time, make a $45,000 donation to the track of his choosing (say, Ferndale), and he can write his own conditions. How about the Fusaichi Pegasus Sprint Classic? Has a commercial ring to it, don't you think?

And if he sets a new track record in winning it, they might double the stud fee.

2 for 4 with two seconds might look good if he was a 2 year old...but for a 4 year old?

The only really good horse I can think of that was named for his owner was Hoop Jr. There was once a horse named D J Trump that went unraced. I think he was standing in Ocala for something like $2,500 and they couldn't even find a sheep to breed him to. I wonder if Trump sued the guy. LOL!

Seriously... has there ever been a stake or even an allowance written for the progeny of one specific stallion? You know we're headed that way.

hi CA Michael

If a win in the 2 furlong Rocket Man S is the only black type that Mr Sekiguchi has attained by the time he is retired from racing...I might agree with your assurance (above) if you remove the words a full book and replace them with he'll be a laughing stock.

He would have been worth more at stud before he ever ran. Now he's just an over priced horse who will likely never win a stake. He's not worth much as a stallion on performance on the track, that's for sure!

They tried to make a stallion out of Tiger Ridge. At least this guy's managed to win a race.

Never underestimate stupid people with money.

I suppose, it's a shame though.
He'll be hard pressed to get to be a winner of the second condition or the third for that matter (if he gets that far)... let alone a stake winner. unless the run him at a small venue somehere or he accidently manages to throw his head in front in a small $75K in S Cal.... good luck, and God bless those who decide he's stallion material...
And Texas gets my vote
