Two Year Old Races

Postby geowarrior » Thu Mar 15, 2007 4:47 pm

I was browsing the Thoroughbred Times sire lists and the juvenile sire list has been activated. What racetrack is having two year old races at this time of year?

Oh thank you Tucumcari, I never would have found that on my own, and I was hoping to use the info. for a little research project.

I found the conditions book with two races at Santa Anita, both MSW's on March 22nd and 29th.

Are there any other tracks in the U.S. starting two year old racing in March that anyone knows of?

Sunland in NM, just northwest of El Paso is now running 2yo races.

Aha, Elvis, you are the king. I found the race that has activated the juvenile sire list in the Thoroughbred Times. An MSW at Sunland March 9th, two furlongs on the dirt won by Brax in a time of 22.72. This catapults Night Fright (Affirmed) to the top of the juvenile sire list. A star in the making do we think?

I kid you not Roguelet. Check out the results chart for Sunland, March 9th, I've forgotten which race but it was an MSW won by Brax (Night Fright (who isn't even in the Bloodhorse Stallion Register)). Oh no, I guess you can't, the chart for that day just disappeared.

Damn, my late-maturing distance horses would still be trying to figure out if the gates had opened yet or not and the race would already be over!

Well, my mare (the one I don't have at the end of your driveway, Roguelet) would still be eating grass by the time they hit the wire. It's tough to break from the gate when you don't exist. Actually that posted time for the two furlong race is pretty fast, I was comparing it with Michael's list of two year olds in training times.

Lucy, now that is interesting, there's always this sense we get from many opinions stated that we are pushing two-year-olds more and more, but perhaps this is not the truth.

Where were these races? And are there any times posted for them?

2 year "young" races

Postby CeeDreams » Sun Mar 18, 2007 10:11 pm

I thought the next 2 year old race at Santa Anita is this Wednesday, March 21, first race.

"In a racing rarity, twins owned by twins were entered in the first 2-year-old race of the season on Wednesday. Kaylarocketdancer and Kyles Rocketdancer, fillies by the California-bred sire Rocket Dancer, are owned by Kayla and Kyle Williamson. The fillies are trained by Keith Craigmyle."

Seabiscuit made his first start at 2 on Jan 19th (I believe he was born in March) and ran 35 times before the year was out.

I thought he was born in May....May 23rd to be exact...he also died in May. You are right about him starting Jan 19th. He had 89 life time starts

Some of your greatest race horses and derby winners were born in May.

May is special to me :D
