Rokeby, I just looked at Good Reward, and he does seem like a durable type who could produce for the Polytrack. However he has a fair bit of ND and I wouldn't add more, Secretariat and Mr. P. so what sort of mare would you be thinking of for him?

Roguelet, Pass Rush is a horse that really is going to be standing in Indiana. He seems to have been a very durable racehorse, 40 starts, and horse of the year in Indiana. Now we know that Indy Mood is the best stallion in Indiana, but given that, what do you think of Pass Rush?

Wellllll........
OK, now this is JUST MY OPINION and I am NO bloodstock agent:

I think Pass Rush was a good racehorse. I think $3000 as an introductory fee in Indiana is quite overly optimistic. You can get to his sire for $2000 more, and you can get to good, PROVEN Indiana sires for less; quite a bit less, actually. People don't/won't pay that here, not in the current situation. If slots pass, that will be a different story. However, right now, mare owners in Indiana won't go for that fee. And, until slots pass, outside mare owners don't care about Indiana breds any more.

Now, watch him be the next best thing since sliced bread...

Good Reward is a tough horse to breed to and not double up on something, but since he's already tripled up on ND just by himself, it's obvious that you'd avoid anything with ND. I'd look to breed him to Hail To Reason and perhaps double to Raise a Native, but not through anything from the Mr P line.

It's also hard to believe that Bernardini won't be a good stallion. With the type of mares that Darley can send to him, he'd have to completely lack any genetic material in order to fail.

But it's now 3/17 and I haven't yet heard of him getting a mare in foal. What's up with that?

New Sires?

Postby graham » Sat Mar 17, 2007 8:57 pm

I noticed that you were talking about Broad Brush stallions. I have one that is out of a MGSW - (Mz Zill Bear - $740,000). He doesn't have anything old enough to run yet but he does have a few yearlings that are nice looking. I don't advertise him anywhere. I just breed a few of my mares and a few of my friends but if someone wants to give him a try it would be an inexpensive way to get a nice bred horse. Let me know if anyone is interested. Thanks, graham

Karie, you can't be serious? Not enough interest? The breeding industry never fails to astonish me.

I hope they don't geld him. Just checked Millenium Farms' website. He's racing this season and then they're looking at placing him in a 'Mid-Atlantic' location afterwards. I guess that's a novel way to be ejected from Kentucky, before there's even a foal on the ground. He should be a great regional sire when he finally does retire.

Hi Graham, thanks for the info. The Broad Brush line (Domino) is one worth hanging on to. What is your stallion's name?

new sires?

geowarrior,

My stallions name is Broad And Locust. He didn't win any stakes races but he did manage to win $65,000. He did run in a few stakes but he fractured a sesmoid. They tried to repair it and run him again but he came up sore on it so they retired him. He has a great disposition and has produced some nice babies. Hopefully a couple of them will be runners. Thanks for asking, graham

Geo, sometimes the 2nd time is the charm - there was no interest in Mass Media, so they brought him back in 2006 and retired him this year.

I hope Graham's stallion works out because the Broad Brush line is running out of bullets - Mongoose and Include are just about all that's left.

It would be a shame, as it's one of the non-ND lines. I love Mongoose—just wish he were a little closer...

Mz Zill Bear was an awfully nice race horse herself...best of luck with your boy! I would think there would be interest in him in the MidAtlantic if he is a good looking boy with some nice looking foals on the ground...

I don't get the sense that Mongoose is setting the world on fire yet, but one can always hope. Include is doing well though. Another Broad Brush stallion is Dr. Litin standing in Oregon for $500. He has foals on the ground but I haven't heard what they are like. He is out of Derby winner Winning Colors. I agree that the Broad Brush line is one worth saving, and I'm thinking there is at least one more Broad Brush at stud (in addition to Graham's stallion) but I can't remember what its name is.

As for Super Frolic, I thought he had everything. Is he very small or crooked or some other thing I had not picked up from his paper record?

I have seen one Dr. Litin, as a foal, and she was absolutely lovely.
