Not For love

Postby griff » Wed Mar 21, 2007 7:40 am

I am looking at a mare named Perfect Colours to beed to NOT FOR LOVE.. My concern is her maternal grand dam, the dam to her sire, is full sister to NOT FOR LOVE and would appreciate comments and thoughts on this mating

Opps, her fraternal grand dam is full sister to Not For Love.

Would you explain, please, what is a "fraternal grand dam".

I think the word Griff meant to use was paternal meaning the father's side. Accelerator is the sire of Perfect Colours, and his dam Get Lucky is a full sibling to Not for Love out of the mare Dance Number sired by Mr. Prospector. So the resulting foal would be 2x4 to Mr. Prospector/Dance Number through the sibs.

Yes paternal. The dam of the sire

well, if you are looking to double up on wonderful maternal lines. you get both Somethingroyal twice through your mare and you have the fulls sibs Not for Love and Get Lucky, who themselves are fulls sibs to champion Rhthym. Two very stellar families there.

However, a word of caution.... neither the sire nor the dam were especially talented race horses. Depends for what purpose you're breeding. If you are going to do the racing yourself, I'd say try it. Not sure what the commercial value would be for sales though.

It is a very intriguing cross, in my opinion.

La Troienne mare

I also thought of breeding to Not for Love with my mare, who is a direct dam-line descendent of La Troienne. Her name is Dayflower, and I have ended up going to Strategic Mission for various reasons. But your mare's breeding to Not For Love seems intriguing to me and might yield a great racehorse. I saw a stakes winner out of Five Star Day where the granddam of the stakes winner's dam was a full sister to Five Star Day's grand-dam, or something along that line.
