Stage Center, 3yo filly by Geri ex Shake On It, will contest a six furlong dirt race at Oaklawn Park for $12,500 maiden claimers this Friday, March 9th. She is post position three in the fourth race, and this is her second start.
We had planned to race her in a similar race February 18th, but she was scratched due to a sore swollen leg. She quickly responded to antibiotics and bute, and the apparent soft tissue infection resolved. No obvious cause found, but a necessary delay in progress.

Yes, Geowarrior. It seems my first mare is also my most consistent mare. She has now had five foals for me since she quit racing. At least three of them should be racing this year.
Motion Approved (With Approval), OK-bred gelding, age six, stakes-placed earner of ~$90K for his owner, is in training now.
Wordplay (Alphabet Soup), IA-bred filly, age four, nonstarter, currently in training for Prairie Meadows campaign.
Stage Center (Geri), KY-bred filly, age three, maiden, racing at Oaklawn.
Starlight Bay (Sligo Bay), KY-bred filly, age two, not yet in training.
Pictures are all in the database under the PROGENY tab for Shake On It.

I was away at a business conference, but got the report of the race from my trainer afterwards. Apparently there were some delays and late scratches that made the fillies more anxious before the race. All were 3yo maidens. My filly didn't tolerate the hoopla, has always been high-strung and nervous. She ran for awhile and ran out of gas, but seems to be okay. Better luck next time. (Got 6th of eight runners).

Stage Center races again
My trainer called today with news that Stage Center was entered today for a six furlong race at Oaklawn this Saturday March 17th, race #2. It's a maiden claimer for $15,000 tag, a seven-horse field, and she gets PP6 and an experienced jockey in Cliff Berry.
Apparently she ran her race before the actual event last week and has been tearing down the barn looking for another chance. Wish us well.

This race was much more satisfactory than the previous two. It was a short field of maiden fillies, and the two older ones were relative long shots. The only first-time starter in the group was the eventual 3yo winner, who led wire to wire and was much the best.
Stage Center went off at 12:1, got her usual quick start from the gate, then settled into the second flight behind the battling pacesetters. She had no traffic problems, and was able to easily take second after the second front-running filly tired out. She paid $10.00 to place and $6.00 to show. The 3:2 favorite dropped back consistently and trailed the field.
What a relief to get a good purse and see that she can perform well when "pace makes the race". The trainer and jockey were happy with her performance, and she's fine afterward.
P.S. I forgot to add that today is her third birthday; she's a St. Patrick's Day foal.

I've got a St. Patty's day 3YO, she's in training now. Wonder how many St. Patty's day babies are out there?
