SHAKE YOU DOWN opened up early, set a fast pace inside, was collared in mid stretch and weakened late.

not claimed.

How's he doing? Is he not considered to be valued at more than that? Huh. I enjoyed seeing him run before. I'm curious as to whether he's just slowing down or if there's something to it :?

Just reading in the Ocala Area Racing Digest called the "Wire to Wire" that Shake You Down has been retired back to Florida and has joined the horses at the Florida Thoroughbred Retirement Foundation"s Farm in Lowell. This farm is used to teach inmates of local correctional facilities how to care for horses, a skill which cannot be anything but good for us all. Thought that you would all be pleased . Former champs Carterista and Val's Prince are retired there too!

That's great news Wilf, I was worried that Shake You Down might end up going the way of My Snookie's Boy. May Shake You Down have a happy retirement, he deserves it.

I was glad to hear he was retired, but I'm not sure sure about this correctional facility. I hope they keep track of him. Sometimes these places pass the horses on after a few years, and then their fame deserts them.

Does anyone know first hand knowledge of this place?

Maxj this facility is funded by several horsemen's groups and is closely observed by them, also the FTBOA did the deal to get him down there. I am sure it's fine.

I guess it is better than him ending up at the local killpen, which is where horses like him likely end up when they can't race at all.

If Scott Lake is still his trainer, he also trained the 13 y/o gelding Stormy Do, when he broke down in a 5k claimer last September.

Why does this surprise anyone? This goes on all the time.

Wonderful ending. Excellently written article.

And to the owner and trainer...Shake You Down DID go out a winner...and so did everyone, with this ending.

Look forward to the day when this is the "norm" and not the rare exception.

Shake You Down was lucky that people noticed what was happening and cared. Shake You Down was always a winner, he always tried his best, and as BJ says in the end the connections came through for him.

For the downside, which I suspect might be more common, read the thread about My Snookie's Boy, I can't get that sad story out of my mind.
