Beautiful colt last night

Postby madelyn » Thu May 03, 2007 10:29 pm

Out of our very big, stunning mare, Glenfiddich Fire, I had been to Churchill this morning very early (got soaked in the rain). Then shopping and making food for our party. Had to run back to the track about 8 to drop off tents and beer tubs. Got home, just barely in time for this very big bay colt by Rocking Trick. Usual maiden mare, terrified she was dying (just labor). And now both doing well. 5 for 5 so far, two more mares to go.

Congratulations Madelyn - another Rocky baby and another healthy foal! Can't get any better than that!

Enjoy the Derby!

You're Scottish, Bondama? Me too. Love the name also, it's a bit early in the morning but some Glenfiddich sounds nice.

Madelyn, congratulations again. I keep thinking about your mare Dun Legal and her long foal-less time. How are she and her new baby doing? Is she still as proud as punch?

Lizzie's Miracle is a big bouncy filly now, and Dun Legal is still the ever cautious, careful mom. But she doesn't do the typical maiden mare walk in/out of the barn with her filly -- no pinned ears, snapping at every horse she walks by.

Glenfiddich Fire is the first Thoroughbred I ever purchased. She was a very large yearling filly then. I changed her name from Mrs. Gibson.

I wasn't all that creative back then, Glenfiddich is from Inverness, and she is the color of a good single malt. Sire was Kerosene, flame, fire...

My husband wants to name this one Fire Trick. I like Scotch Talking...or Scotch Rocks.. :)

Well this might be a bit obscure but what about Uisce Batha (I need to check the spelling on that), but it's Gaelic for water of life, in other words whisky? I believe the correct pronunciation is Ish-kih Baha. I'll check. Gaelic isn't my first language. These days I wonder if English is even my first language.

Another description for Scotch, of course is a wee dram.

Very glad to hear that Dun Legal and filly are doing well, that's such a wonderful story. A lot of people in Britain name their houses, and a very common one is "Dun Roamin'", which describes Dun Legal pretty well, I think.

I love the photos, Madelyn. What an interesting position in the second photo. Looks like he failed the "drunk test", huh? Looks like he tipped over trying to walk that straight line.

I checked the Online Names Book; taken are Tipsy, Bobble, Scotch Talk, Influence. Scotch Talking looks to be available. :P

Awwwww - he's great looking and like S - I love that one of him cutting the corner fast - he's practicing for the turns already :) (although at that rate he might throw his jockey off). What a looker! Dam is pretty nice as well.
