It's no joke in California.
"My horse didn't belong in the race, after all"....I'd LOVE someone to just admit that some day.
Here's Pletcher's post-race interview:

We got two Afleet Alexes and I think 2 Barbaros. Didn't get a Giacomo though...
I thought of using ILuvDaleJr8 or Smoke20 for my moniker, but that's for a totally different sport that also beats you to death with sponsor ads

Come on guys!
Concentrate!
Although I haven't heard anything specific yet myself.
Cowtown Cat...must have bled, I'll say, and
Nobiz got cut up or something.
. . .uh .. . . . . .Storm in May turned out to be in foal?(maybe they should have worried less about his eye)

For all the media hype prior to the race, there's virtually no analysis of the race in today's press. Very odd. I would have hoped to see quotes from all the trainers assessing a) how their horses ran and b) how they came out of the race. I guess it's like Christmas, once it's over, haul down that Christmas tree and start getting the Valentine's Day cards on the shelves.
So it's countdown to the Preakness, and so far it looks like Street Sense, Hard Spun, Curlin, Sedgefield, and Teuflesberg (when will those people learn that this is not a two turn horse?) have indicated they are aiming for the Preakness. Preakness newcomers could include Xchanger, Slew's Tizzy, Chelokee, King of the Roxy, and Starbase or Flying First Class.
Imawildandcrazyguy is headed for the Belmont. That seems like a very good decision on the part of his trainer. That horse is going to be one of my watch horses from now on. I don't know if they have that same system of distance/speed tracking that they do at Keeneland, but it's possible that 'crazy' might have gone faster than any horse in the field to get his fourth because he came pretty wide. Also, the jockey despite knowing he was on an outsider and being far back behind the field, never gave up - that's the kind of rider I'd want on my horses.
Great Hunter and Liquidity are going back to California. Wound licking is in order.
No word (that I could find, anyway) on the Pletcher crew, and no word on Nobiz.
As far as excuses go, all I heard was that Hard Spun was beaten by a better horse, none of the Pletcher horses ran their 'A' races whatever that means, Zanjero didn't get a very good trip as he had to be steadied. Curlin did as well as could be expected given his lack of experience.
Cowtown Cat was obviously last because he was sulking - he had the ugliest name in the field and he was embarrassed.
Where would I go to find out what Beyers have been assigned for the race?
