May 12th PA Racing Bred Spring Mixed Sale

Postby HiddenEchoFarm » Thu Mar 29, 2007 6:32 am

Contact information for the above sale is also on pg. 70 of the 3/24 issue of TB Times.

This is the same sales venue where broodmares & horses of racing age were going so cheaply last year & I think this is one of the few places it has been advertised, so these sales might be under the radar again this year.

Two farms are dispersing their young stock so there should be yearlings, two-year-olds & horses of racing age, some by sires like Action This Day, Artax, Carson City, Catienus, Chief Seattle, Freud, Grindstone, Two Punch, Wheaton, etc. In other words, a decent mix for a regional sale.

The sale is located just off of I-78, easy access from I-81 & the PA Turnpike's NE Extension. It is being run by Rich Miller, [email protected]

If you did your homework, you could get a real bargain at these sales last year & with the purses jumping up in PA due to the slots, I would think some of these horses should have immediate value.

Catalog

Yes -- e-mail Rich at the address in the original post & he'll either snail or e-mail it to you --

Entries don't close until 4/1 [I think] so it won't be available until some time after that -- and if you don't hear from him right away, he's kind of a one man operation, and juggling a farm, breeding, getting horse ready for the track, etc.

I've had to send a 2nd e-mail closer to the time to remind him . . . if you don't hear right by the 3rd week in April or so, it never hurts to ask again.

I had a bunch of people asking for catalogs so figured I'd post -- if anyone is coming to the sale, drop by the stall of Hip #87 -- Echo Farms Elmo [we SO didn't pick that name] to say hello.

What are "E" numbers in a catalog pedigree?

Postby CurrentlyRed » Tue May 08, 2007 4:21 am

I bought an equineline pedigree on a couple horses in this sale including Hip # 87 & there are numbers in the pedigrees, like "E 133" for a horse named Fabulous Strike in Hip #87's pedigree.

That's the highest "E" number I saw & I was wondering what it means. Any help would be appreciated. I also posted on the general site, but didn't get an answer -- maybe I posted the wrong place?

You're probably going to be halfway to Ohio & not going to read this in time -- I was on a business trip this week

Stop over, any way.

The Jockey Club picked the name -- we wanted to call him "IvaCecilElmo" in tribute to my late father-in-law, as he was the last foal born on the farm my father-in-law loved. But the JC didn't understand what ivacecilelmo meant, and fearing it had some hidden & dark meaning, they put a couple words from several names together & named him Echo Farms Elmo. We still call him Icey, which were the initials from the name we'd chosen.

KB I missed the sale (guess you figured that) how did it go? I was really interested in the Catienus filly and the Horatious mare. Didnt get home until 4pm...noway I was going to make it. I will be there in September with 3 mares at least..hope I can meet you then.

Interesting on the name...didnt know the JC could give you names...I just keep learning :D

Yeah -- imagine my surprise, too. They combined a couple names we sent & came up with it -- I'm sure we could change it, but why bother?

Hope to see you in September. Bring Dunny pictures!

This was the best [for sellers] sale yet -- at least one no-saled at $20,000 -- when in the past, they had trouble getting a $5,000 bid on anything at all & a $600 bid was closer the norm.

Our gelding sold just okay -- but went to a 'race in PA' home. We'll probably bring in-foal mares to the Sept. 8th sale'; there were a couple big agents there, who hadn't shown up at prior sales. Might turn into a seller's sale, yet. [Guess we'll have to look elsewhere for our broodmares now.]

How far are you from Williamsport, PA [I ask, knowing I'll be in that neighborhood this summer.]

I know we are bringing at least 3 infoal mares to the sale hoping they do OK and I would love to see them foal in PA and watch the foals run there. We are 90 miles straight north on RT15 of Williamsport. About 1/2hr west of Lawrenceville PA.

Great to hear that the people are starting to come and bring some $$.

Also nice that your boy went to a race in PA home.
